Wonderfully renovated wharf...this is a working wharf, so yes when you sit outside you will have a slightly fishy smell...that being said, there was no smell in our room. They are very helpful/nice Inn owners. The food here is fresh and fantastic! Spent a full week here and enjoyed every minute. (Bonus is cell phones work there and they have WIFI, so you can get away from it all -- but you aren't completely disconnected in case of emergency.
I have to say I had rented a house in town for two weeks that turned out to be filled with mold and the 'owner' was not helpful nor understanding...the folks at the Inn on the Wharf rescued me and saved our vacation to beautiful Lubec!

We had the pleasure of being the first visitors of the season to the Inn on the Wharf in Lubec, ME. It was a little hard to find (I later learned that signs are taken down for the winter, due to wind), but the owner was expecting us and greeted us personally at our car. He and another employee helped us bring our luggage to our apartment, which was spacious, clean, and seriously, right on the water. My two kids and I had a peaceful (no tv) and comfortable stay. The bridge to Campobello Island is just around the corner!

The views and sunsets every night were as spectacular as ever. Another wonderful stay - this is becoming an annual event for us. The weather was a bit cooler but surprisingly pleasant. The room was clean, comfortable and perfect water views (all rooms do!). Great meals for terrific value at the restaurant on site (very convenient!), and excellent coffee at a delicious breakfast each morning - with amazing views over the calm waters of Johnson's bay - it really is unique. I also love the Working Water Front underneath the Inn - watching the lobster boats come in, offloading, and we were given a tour of the facilities to see the fascinating process of lobster from ocean to the dinner plate! :-). Looking forward to our next visit already.

This funny little hotel has been built into an old sardine factory and, yes, there's sometimes a faint fishy smell as it is still on a working wharf. That said there was no smell in our room at all and the uniqueness of the hotel is such that it is one place you will never forget. And it represents terrific value for money.

While tucked away at the back of Lubec, the location is excellent with great views out over the Harbour. All very quiet and peaceful.

The rooms are very large, if simply appointed. The rooms are somewhat long and narrow having been retrofitted into the industrial architecture of the old factory.

One feature that we really liked was the very large common area with kitchen etc. not only is it easy to get your own breakfast but it is also great for meeting other guests.

There is a small laundry in a cupboard at the end of the hall.

The attached restaurant is surprisingly good. While the menu might be a bit limited, the food was excellent.

I read many of the reviews before we booked and most of them represented the pluses and minuses of this facility fairly; however I have to respectfully disagree with anyone who gave this facility an excellent rating. That being said we were happy with the accommodations and the setting because I read those reviews and we knew what to expect. If we go back to Lubec, we will consider this place again.
One could call the location wonderful or horrible depending on what you expect. Our perspective was that it was a lovely setting on the water looking to the north of the harbor. The views from the windows are nice and we enjoyed watching the fishing boats working in the harbor and unloading at the dock. We especially enjoyed a super beautiful sunset from the common deck. However several of the other people staying while we were there commented how they were quite disappointed because of the Dock noise and the fish smell. A personal comment regarding the fish smell: it was strange that in the middle of the night I would wake-up from time to time and notice the smell was stronger than usual – does that indicate a ventilation issue – I don’t know. This facility is integrated with a working fishing dock, so it is definitely has a commercial/industrial tone
The facilities are of average quality construction – nothing special, and some of the construction appears to be standard housing quality rather than commercial facility standard. Our room was showing some wear, but it was nearing the end of the season. I assume interior repairs are done during the off season. We were in the sunset room and we heard little noise from other rooms.
There is no TV in the rooms, there is wireless internet, albeit a bit slower than most hotels, available, the rooms are heated by baseboard heating and our room had a dedicated water heater. The bath is adequate and the room was relatively big but it is a long narrow rom with a sitting area at the windows; the chairs in the sitting area were extremely comfortable. The common area is a nice big area with seating, dining table and kitchen areas. The area is a nice feature that allows you to meet other guests but it can be loud and distracting especially if you have a room near the common area.
The associated restaurant is a small and can be good but has a rather limited menu but the menu has some fancy items that are prepared well. Like everything in Lubec it closes down early (8:00PM when we were there) so plan to eat early in the evenings.
Staff at the Hotel was what I would call “cool friendly” and rather informal. Don’t expect a high level of service, but service is adequate for the informality of the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms to the west are better -- away from the common area and away frm the dock

The apartment is beautiful, simple and view phenomenal but...the room smells fishy, very very strong fish smell! Maybe if the master bedroom was tiled the odor wouldn't come through or stick?! Opening the windows cleared the smell! But is mid October. Not really an option. The setting is gorgeous and we saw two whales from our room! Might return again with febreeze, candles and in the summer!

What a unique place in every way. From the shape of the room (long and narrow) to the exposed tastefully painted concrete beams and iron beds to the Ikea chairs facing the harborside windows (with gorgeous up close water views) this place screams eclectic and chic. One would NEVER know it is a refurbished sardine factory! The "community room" with fully equipped kitchen, dining table, and sitting area with television is a nice option for guests that want to save a dime and prepare their own food on property; though we found numerous eateries very close by had delicious and inexpensive fare (we did not eat on property but saw plenty of activity there). Though it did not bother us at all; please be advised there are no mini fridges in the individual hotel rooms nor are there televisions. Very very clean. Incredibly friendly staff. The reservationist really took the time to describe our room in detail including the fact that it abutted with the kitchen to the restaurant. Funny she mentioned the potential for noise at night from the kitchen; which we never heard.....however she never said word one about the fact that the room was over a working-dock so bright and early in the am we could hear voices, trucks and other machinery. Again, we didn't mind because we were already up and back from catching that perfect sunrise at West Quoddy Head but non-early risers may want to request a room away from the dock. Overall we found the authenticity of the building, the location and the staff to be a welcome respite. I am definitely returning!

Room Tip: Not all rooms have a private balcony so ask. And be aware that the parking area is quite a distance...
