Driving up to the motel you think - is it the 1950's again? And it is, sort of. The Eastland Motel is located 3 miles outside of Lubec. You can drive or ride your bike to town. The rooms are squeaky clean; bed is quite comfortable; there are extra pillows (always a plus in my book); there is a good size refrigerator (could use a freezer compartment to keep cold packs frozen); coffee machine; tv; and good size bath towels. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast is yogurt, muffins and fruit. Chocolate chip cookies are always available. And there are comfortable chairs to sit on in front of your room or in the grassy area out front. The motel is on the main road, but it's not that busy. Overall, a very good stay and a very good price.

Located in beautiful Downeast, ME, this modest motel is a jewel. It's an easy drive to Eastport, Campobello Is., New Brunswick, Cutler Village, Machias and is just a couple of miles to the Lubec harbor, shops and excellent restaurants. My room was very comfortable and beautifully furnished. The entire staff is friendly and helpful and they all speak English. A wonderful continental breakfast is served daily with good coffee, yogurt, fresh fruit and wonderful home made muffins. The host owners live on premises and they will guarantee your complete satisfaction with uncompromising skills and human relations expertise. I'll return and bring friends.

So, when you drive up to this place, with its dated-looking sign and somewhat tired first impression, it doesn’t blow you away, but don't be fooled. Yes, as I write this, its “hair is up in curlers” (but in NO way that affects your stay) but this is definitely a lodging property on the rise. Run by couple Glen and Heather, this is their second season as owners, and they’re working hard on upgrading the place. And they get a lot of details rights.

When I was there, the corridor outside my room was halfway painted, but the room was big, beds comfortable (new mattresses in most rooms, and while I had an older one, mine was still fine, and I’m very particular…), good-sized bathroom with plenty of counter space. Decent towels. Small under/over fridge, microwave, coffeemaker.

Free Wifi. And because chances are excellent you won’t have a cell signal way up here, they offer free long-distance to anywhere in U.S. and Canada from the in-room phones.
Free tasty continental breakfast (fresh-baked muffins, yogurt, juice, coffee, fresh fruit, etc.)

You’re about five minutes driving from the charming burg of Lubec, which, while it’s obviously seen more prosperous times, has a nice, friendly vibe, beautiful scenery, and several lively restaurants offering solid food (Frank's has an amazing Caesar salad you'd never expect to find in some edge-of-the-world town...).

Warning: even in the height of summer, most of the restaurants stop taking diners at 8:00. Plan accordingly. If you forget and get stuck, dinnerless, at 8:15, as I did one night, the variety store right at the crossroads of 189 and the turnoff to Canada is open till 9, and makes decent subs/wraps. No, it won’t be the seafood dinner you were craving, but look on the bright side: two subs, chips and drinks won’t set you back much more than $10.

Speaking of food, check out Murphy’s just west of town on 189 for yummy and budget-friendly breakfasts…

Personally, I liked being a bit outside of town (motel has a pretty backyard to wander, with picnic tables and grills). The price was extremely reasonable, and definitely less than the in-town properties.

But the key is the people at Eastland. From Heather and Glen (amazing friendly, welcoming and helpful) to the whole staff of front-desk and housekeeping folks, it’s a sunny, friendly feel. And coupled with everything they get right with the rooms and trimmings, you’ll be patting yourself on the back for making a good decision. AND looking forward to returning.

This was the only motel-style accomodation in Lubec listed in the AAA book. However, we were very pleased with our room and the owners were very helpful in directing us to places to eat and visit in Lubec. Our room (for a party of 3) included 2 double beds and enough space to easily add another bed and do cartwheels. Our room had airconditioning, which is a good thing; the town (about 3 miles away) seems to be slightly cooler due to all the cool water nearby. Loved the water pressure in the shower. Breakfast was muffins, yogurt and coffee and started at 730. But since the room had a microwave and frig, this shouldn't bother anybody. They have friendly black lab that greets everyone and willingly accepts dinner leftovers.

were were guests and the Down east wed aug 1 for 1 nite while we explored the area. Upon check in, we were told of the motel being upgraded so that did not affect our stay there. Our room was very large and spacious and it was only a couple of miles into town. We had good wi fi here an were pleased with the accomendations. The cont'l breakfast was small, but the homemade muffins were fantastic. I would stay here again if ever in the area

We spent two nights here. The rooms are very clean and comfortable and we are fussy. The breakfast was superb homemade muffins, fruit, yogurt, and coffee....a perfect start to the day. The property is being upgraded so there is some hallway signs of that. This does not affect the stay. The innkeepers are great! You will enjoy them. Don't be put off by the outside dated appearance. There is a gem inside! We will return here.
