Recently we traveled to Lubec Maine to watch the first sunrise of 2014. We had dreamed of this moment but realized that it might not be possible when we started calling to make reservations. Many places in Lubec were closed for the winter season, others were booked, and many didn't accept dogs. We were so lucky when we were referred to the Eastland Motel. We were so thankful that Heather and Glen are willing to brave the cold and stay open for the winter season and accept dogs with a minimal pet fee. Heather and Glen went beyond the call of duty when we checked in. Our room trip was running long and we called ahead to let them know we wouldn't arrive until after office hours, they kindly told us our room number over the phone and turned our heat on so it would be toasty when we finally arrived. (Side note about Lubec, if you arrive after 7 during the winter, everything is closed, eat ahead of time.) We were only in Lubec for a couple days, but loved every minute of it. The room at the Eastland was economical, warm, and quaint. Heather and Glen and everyone we met in Lubec were very friendly and willing to point us in the right direction. The Eastland is in the middle of all you need, they even stocked snow shoes, and snow gear for their visitors. The blueberry muffins were delicious as we drove out of town.

I would also recommend Uncle Kippy's for dinner and entertainment; the Water Street Tavern had a delicious breakfast with a breath-taking view; McFadden's Variety had a breakfast sandwich that warmed our stomachs and they were very helpful in telling us what we should see and do.

I would highly encourage everyone to add the first sunrise in Lubec, Maine to their bucket list and be sure to stay at the Eastland.

It was an absolute pleasure meeting you both! Thanks too for sending us the photo cd with the sunrise pictures. Greatly appreciated! We hope you both make a trip back in the summer to see Lubec from a different perspective!

We have been going to Lubec for years and have stayed at the Eastland before. The original owner--and elderly couple-- sold the place to a person who managed it previously, and she continued to maintain its standards and was a warm and friendly person. Unfortunately, for the past few years, she became quite ill and was unable to continue to run it as previously. It was acquired the past summer by an energetic young couple who have restored the rooms, and now it is back to a pleasant place to stay in the easternmost place in the US-and quite scenic--before taking the bridge over to Canada.

Thanks Joel for taking a chance and staying with us! We appreciate your review and hope you come back soon! The former owner is a friend and we will share your review with her. She loves to hear when people remember and appreciate how friendly and hardworking she is. She is busy golfing now!

We traveled to Lubec to see the first sunrise in the USA for 2014. It was spectacular! The Eastland Motel was the perfect place to stay. It is close to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse and about 10 minutes to the border and Campobello Island. Heather and Glenn were very helpful in finding dinner reservations for New Year's Eve as well as giving us tips about the local attractions. The motel was clean and economical, the homemade blueberry muffins were delicious! We wish we had more time to explore Downeast Maine. If you are a bird lover be sure to ask about the Bald Eagles!

We stayed at the Eastland Motel in late September for one night. The beds were a problem - - - a more supportive, less worn mattress is needed. The A.C. unit could stand a thorough cleaning to remove the build up of dust and molds. This is a "Mom & Pop" operation. A very friendly couple is restoring the motel. Our room was clean and large, with new paint and carpet. The "Mom" was happy to let us take our breakfast to our room the night before because we were planning an early departure - - - very accommodating!

Thanks for staying with us and thanks too for taking the time to review. We apologize for the beds, we have replaced most of them, and will replace the remaining mattresses this spring. It is a costly venture! We have also addressed the air conditioners and they are now all scrubbed weekly, filters included. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. Happy to hear you appreciated your evening breakfast... we have no problem preparing one for guests that have to leave earlier than our morning serving time.

This was our second time at Eastland Motel and unfortunately it wasn't the same experience as our first time a couple months ago. I know there are some things which happen that cannot be avoided and a broken hot water heater is one of them and the timing just happened to be during our stay. I don't believe the owners were in town during this time but was a bit disappointed the gentleman working the desk didn't come by our room or give us any personal notification there was an issue other than a sign on the office door. And we really missed the continental breakfast or even coffee in the morning. We did use the coffee supplies which came with the room our first morning but they were not replenished during the room cleaning. We used our coffee pot to heat water to do a "sink bath" each day as well. We will definitely be back and will certainly stay at Eastland again. Just a little sad it couldn't have been handled a bit better considering the few guests that were staying on the property.

We are so happy with the way you handled that situation. Unfortunately, we were out of the country and my son was on duty. He was extremely stressed by having the water system shut down over the holiday weekend! And as our luck would have it, the town water supply also provided additional issues. My son was more concerned with trying to get the water supply back on than thinking about having to inform the many guests. We discussed it when we got home and he was deeply apologetic, but also so happy to see us return. He has yet to offer to run the place since then! Thanks again for being so understanding. I hope we can make it up to you in the future.

Glen and Heather, go above and beyond to make you stay comfortable! Where to hike, what to see, where to eat…..The Motel is Eco Friendly thus recycling, their soap products are wonderful, and don't forget the coffee! Great! Did I mention how comfy the bed was? Hight or low season, I will be back!!

We stayed at the Eastland Motel while we explored the Lubec, Maine area around the end of June 2013. The owners of the hotel could not have been nicer. The fresh baked muffins in the morning were something we looked forward to each day we were there. The hotel provided a great stepping off point to the many attractions in this area, including the West Quoddy Lighthouse, Campobello Island and of course downtown Lubec with the great eateries available. The were some renovations happening while we were there, but our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. We hope to get back to this area of Maine in the future. We liked that it felt unhurried and that the big crowds seemed to be in Bar Harbor, two hours away! The only problem with our trip was that it had to end.
