“East USA”

If you are in Lubec this is a must. Not far from town, we biked there. This is one of the places you need to be able to say "I was there." Staff was friendly and provided insight in to the history. The trails near the lighthouse also provided close encounters to the forest of the coast. Very short walk and you get the feeling quickly that you in a bog. We went out there actually three times since with the changing weather things looked very different. Fog, clear, rain. Have a great time. Get out and explore.

“Quintessential Lighthouse!”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

Having spent about a week in the Lubec area we were swamped in by fog most of the time and only found the sun shinning for about two hours one evening. So we took many photographs of the lighthouse in the fog and video with the fog horn sounding every few seconds which added to the mystic seaside drama. Then, with the sun out, we got some super "quintessential" lighthouse photos. Great Sight!

“West is East”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

Maine's West Quoddy Head Light is actually east of West Quoddy Head Light in NB. There is a marker between the light and an adjacent building that marks the Easternmost Point in the US 48 states.

“Beautiful Lighthouse!”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

This is a stunning lighthouse! The lighthouse keeper's residence is used as a visitor center and gift shop. And, the staff are friendly and talkative. Unfortunately, you can't go up into the lantern. And, this lighthouse is a bit out of the way - perhaps not surprising for the easternmost point in the continental US. However, we had some difficulty finding the place as we couldn't find a precise address, the GPS didn't have it listed as an attraction, and the signage along the way could have been better. Parking is adequate and there is an outhouse near the parking lot. It's definitely worth a visit even though there's not much else around to see or do. Especially, if you don't plan on crossing the bridge to Campobello Island (Canada) to see the equally stunning lighthouses there, this one is a must!

“Nice”
Reviewed 4 October 2013

Here in Missouri, we don't have many lighthouses, actually none. So when we visit the coast I always look for lighthouses. We had just drove around Nova Scotia and saw quite a few houses, but this one is what you think lighthouses should look like. Painted red and white stripes and with a great view into the Atlantic. We were there late in the afternoon and some lobster fishermen were coming in. There were lots of seals playing nearby. The area was very well maintained with a monument about being the most eastern part of the US. I could spend a lot of time there, just enjoying the scenery.
