The folks in Lubec describe this part of the country as "not the end of the earth - but you can see it from here". You are, after all, more than an hour away from the nearest traffic light. The result is a little piece of heaven where you can sit looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, listening to the waves crashing on the rocks below, and gazing out to Grand Manan Island, ten miles away across the water. Bald eagles may soar overhead, and if you are really lucky in August and September you might see whales from the rocky cliffs. And watching over this with you is one of the more colorful lighthouses in the country. Still functioning, it is now automated. On many days the fog will roll in and you will feel and hear the deep boom of the fog horn. It is really a magical place.

Very picturesque with an added bonus. There's hiking trails and a picnic area off to the right. One trail goes along a rugged coastline with remarkable views. The other cuts through a quiet, meditative wooded area and comes out on the coastline trail. The coastline trail is fairly long but you don't have to do the entire trail. If you do, it comes out on the road you came in on so just take a right and it's an easier walk back from there. If you have children with you, watch them closely as the drop off is dangerous and very steep.

I would encourage anyone to add the first sunrise to their bucket list. It is worth trip and negative temperatures.

Spectacular coastal hiking without a lot of other people. Close to town of Lubec. Really worth the extra distance north and east beyond the usual tourist destinations.

We visited this light a couple of times, including hiking the trails in the state park. Wonderful views, and we liked the alpine bog area. Unfortunately, there was no sun for our sunrise pictures, but the fog made the pictures even better.
