Owner description: A bully good historic attraction, not to be missed: the home of Theodore Roosevelt from 1902 to 1906, considered the "Summer White House," a beautiful 23-room Victorian mansion estate that also includes a 37-acre National Environmental Study Area of forest, tidal salt marsh and bay beach.

“A Lesson in History”
Reviewed 19 March 2012

We enjoyed our visit to this historical home for the history explained by the guides. It is not an elegant home but a very comfortable residence reflecting the varied interest of the Theodore Roosevelt family. If you are in the area it is worth a visit. You can stroll the lovely gardens after you visit the house.

“Quiet nice place to get away from NYC”
Reviewed 17 March 2012

The trail leading to the shore is tranquil. And the shore has the best cobblestones I've seen in long island (not been to alot of places though).

Interestingly, we found a huge Chinese curtilage right next to the tail. Anyone can tell me who it belongs to? It looks amazing.

“Teddy Roosevelt”

We took a ride up and enjoyed a tour of the home--mounted animals on the walls! And brought a picnic lunch and relaxed on the lawn

“Visit Teddy Rosevelts Second Whitehouse”
Reviewed 22 February 2012

This house is packed with Teddy's hunting artifacts. It has been years since I have been there. I think they also added some gardens or bird watching things outdoors as well.

“Excellent place for nature and history lovers”
Reviewed 20 February 2012

This is one of Long Island's great historic treasures. It gives a glimpse of the way President Teddy Roosevelt’s life looked like. The road there is picturesque and as you enter you will be surrounded by lovely landscaped grounds. Visiting Sagamore Hill may be also a great historical lesson.
