We went with family who live near here so we were anxious to visit and glad to have someone show us around to the main attractions. It was going to be a warm day so we arrived early.

I think it would take at least 3 visits to see all the various exhibits. We were impressed with the cleanliness and how well kept it was. The cactus were blooming as well as some wildflowers. Had a very nice lunch as well.
Really enjoyed the hummingbirds and aviary exhibit
We will be back

Beautiful setting. Lots to see in terms of flora but the animals were sleeping due to it being so hot!! Not sure worth a trip or the money since what we saw (minus the sleeping animals) are what you would see on a hike.

This museum has the reputation of being one of the main attractions in Tucson. Docents are stationed at several sites to show visitors specimens up close. They are well-informed and are able to answer any question asked. Be prepared to spend an entire day walking the grounds and stopping at the many exhibits. A highlight of your visit will be attending the live hawk demonstration. Narrated by an expert raptor docent, visitors are enthralled at the agility of the raptors as they soar inches above the heads of spectators--oftentimes feeling the breeze from their wings as they swoop and finally land atop huge saguaros. Javelinas, coyotes, and almost every variety of desert dwelling animals are available for viewing. The hummingbird aviary is not to be missed. This attraction is not cheap, but well worth the admission. Family membership can be purchased which allows you to visit anytime during the calendar year.

We tell all our visitors to Tucson that the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a must-see. Unlike the usual place one thinks of as a museum this is an outdoor experience that educates visitors about our unique desert animals and plants. We tell everyone to get there when it opens so that during the cooler months they can see the Raptor Free Flight show. There are two shows. One is in the morning. One is in the afternoon. They are different.

Many bathrooms have sunscreen dispensers if you forget. There are cold water fountains at several locations throughout the grounds. We always eat at the Ironwood Terrace, a food court type area with many choices. Good if you have children. Sit down dining is available at the Ocotillo Cafe but hours are limited.

Go to the Website for details. http://www.desertmuseum.org/visit/ Hours change with the seasons. There are more children and family groups during times when schools are out, Thanksgiving, Christmas and it can be crowded so remember this when planning to come.

There is a new Warden Aquarium "Rivers to the Sea" exhibition about the rivers that feed the Sea of Cortez and the sea life in the Sea of Cortez.

My husband and I love to go with our guests because every visit is different. We've probably been there over a dozen times. Most often we go with adult friends or family interested in Sonoran Desert plants and animals.

I agree with reviews that mention it is important to plan your visit so that you have the most time there when it is cooler.

WOW! Could spend a few days here just taking my time if it wasnt for the blistering heat. Great place to browse, educate yourself and dine. Everything well done and a must see if your in or anywhere close to the Phoenix area.
