There is a great variety to see here, most of which is in its natural environment rather than a zoo-like environment. Unfortunately we didn't get to see the Javelinas...maybe next time! There was a really informative free talk about Gila Monsters and Rattlesnakes, with live examples! There is also a great restaurant, we had the garden burger which was very tasty.

“Loved the museum”

great museum and worth the drive. Lots to see and do, and the staff is very knowledgeable. Just take a hat and water in case it is hot.

“One of the Great Places on Earth”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

If a visitor goes to one place in Tucson, they should go to the Desert Museum, one of the greatest places on the planet. Even the food in the restaurants is great (i.e. the prickly pear sauce wit grilled chicken). Every time we go, we learn more about the desert, its criters, and our environment. Anyone who does not love the ASDM is off their rocker.

“Summer Nights are the absolute BEST!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

I finally had the honor of being able to afford a membership this year. I am so excited to take my family there more often.

My favorite time to visit is during the summer nights during the monsoon season. You just can beat the desert air on nights like those, its amazing. It can be warm if you go early (before 7-8pm) but sometimes with the storms even then its pleasant.

The animal exhibits are not too many but very well put together. The animal demonstrations are AMAZING! Do be warned though they do fill up and will close the doors on you if there is standing room only. Well worth getting there early.

The night sky is incredible out here, its a 30 minute or more drive from mid city and way out behind Gates Pass so star gazing is perfect.

Everyone brings black light flashlights to look for scorpions as they are frequent along the rock walls. Its become a sort of game and its fun to try and spot them.

During summer they do themed nights every Saturday so check their calendar.

During cooler months the raptor free flight demonstrations is a MUST. Seriously one of the most fun and interesting animals shows I have seen. Also cooler months give an opportunity to walk around during the day without the intense heat when the plant life is more alive and the animals more active.

They have a nice restaurant and art gallery as well as many educational areas for children. In the gift shop area is a cafe with coffee and ice cream and other bakery items (coffee and tea are free for members!). They even added an aquarium recently that isnt very big but nicely done for the area.

If you are looking for something fun and educational to do I highly recommend this place. Its very well done and a joy to visit when the weather is right.

“Experience the best of the desert”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014 via mobile

We took our kids ( ages 4 & 7) and we all absolutely loved it. The scenic vistas, all the natural flora and fauna, and a fun informative animal show with venomous animals! If you want to experience and learn about the desert .. Than you must come here!
