Owner description: Built in the 1700s, this recently restored white adobe church, representing a wonderful example of Spanish colonial architecture, is beautiful inside and out, with colorful frescoes, sculptures and carvings.

Historically wonderful. The Catholic church in Rome should provide the money needed to restore it and maintain it.

If you are in the Tucson area, just go. The California missions get all the press, but this mission in particular sticks with me. The other-worldly white architecture and rustic decor plus the fantastic Indian fry bread and roadrunners darting across the parking lot make for a full experience.

Any visitor to Tucson should visit San Xavier atleast once- it's pretty central to the Tucsonian psyche. It's a great place to visit for about an hour- after that you will find its time to move on. A guided tour can provide much depth to your visiting experience. If hungry, it is common for the Native tribes folk to have fry bread stands setup near the parking lot- worth a try if your a visitor(it's usually good). Great place to visit, but you can get bored after awhile- especially during scorching summer days.

We happened upon this Mission by accident while passing through Tucson. Not far off the interstate and well worth a visit. We went around sunset as the Church was closing. So, we spent the night in Tucson and returned the following morning. Beautiful on the inside, nice gardens to visit as well.

Beautiful and clean. So old world. Takes you back in time. Lovely ceiling and wall paintings. Reasonable gift shop with local artists featured. Delicious fried bread meals cooked fresh outside by local native American families. Plenty of quality food for just a few dollars. Nice day!
