We rented a house right by the south edge of the Park. What a wonderful sight to see at sunrise and sunset. Great Trails.

“Gilbert Ray Campground”
Reviewed 7 February 2013

The clear air, silence, cacti, night singers(coyotes), birds, awesome sunsets and morning sun rises. The campsites are far enough apart to give you privacy, with each sitting in its own cactus garden. There are electric hookups for RVs and water available. Clean restrooms.
Friendly staff. This is our favorite campground in AZ.

“Desert adventure only yards from the resorts”
Reviewed 7 February 2013

This park offers many trails through varied and interesting desert terrain only steps from the JW Marriott and other resorts in the Starr Pass area. The trails are somewhat rugged in places, and this is the wild so some attention to the cacti and diligence looking for snakes/wildlife is warranted. But what an amazing place to explore! Bring water, sunscreen and a camera but watch your step. Cell phone coverage is spotty so bring a map and don't rely on your phone's GPS if you go far.

“Gilbert Ray campground...”
Reviewed 28 January 2013

Is a great place to literally be up close and personal with the desert. Provides wonderful desert views. Campsites offer some privacy and clean restrooms (however no soap..what's up with that??). No showers. Well kept campground and a great location for easy access to attractions and hiking.
Top of our list...Arizona Sonora Desert Museum. Great for all ages. Really like a desert zoo. Very user friendly facility ...even sunscreen dispensers in restroom.
Stayed at GR max allowed...1 wk. Would do it again.

“Good desert hiking”
Reviewed 26 January 2013

Lots of hike options in the cactus forest. Take a map, water, and lunch. Many loops are possible. Climb Wasson Peak (it gets a bit crowded on a nice day). Access from any direction from the various roads, there are many trails to choose from.
