I bet this is a great school visit, but visiting during a random weekday in summer I had the place to myself. There are some exhibits and interesting artifacts. I imagine the docent led tours would really bring it all to life. However the park like grounds were nice escape from the city.

Very informative. Nice well kept grounds. Also as a footnote, Two-for-one admission the first Saturday of each month.

“Army History in the SW”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2013

What is left of a US Army post from the Indian Wars era, built over the remains of a Hohokam village from a thousand years ago. A very nice museum in one building, with a nice collection of photos and some artifacts. More interesting are the ruins of buildings from around the old fort.

“History comes alive in mid-town Tucson”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2012

The museum is only open a couple of days a week due to state budget cuts but it's with the visit. Fort Lowell was a major army post during the Apache campaigns of the 1870s and 1880s and the exhibits do a fine job of telling the story,. There are also regular events scheduled throughout the year.

“Fort Lowel Museum”

Too bad there isn't more information given about the soldiers and the folks who lived around the fort. My father-in-law and his siblings used to get down in the trenches to hold up the targets when the soldiers were practicing.
