This is a great time for a hike of any distance from a mile on flat ground to an all day hike part way up Mt. Lemmon. Always a chance for quiet and relaxation. Weekdays usually very quiet. We like to go after a rain when the washes are running.

Hadn't hiked in a while before this trip to Tucson. We took the Romero Trail, and after two hours of steep climbing, we hadn't yet made it to Romero Pools. I kept thinking we were near the top, but oh, no. Wonderful day, sunny and around 70, but we were overdressed.
We turned back down, a bit disappointed we didn't reach the pools, but it was a great climb. It is fairly steep, and in some places, narrow, but experienced hikers will love it.

This is a great area to hike around with the family, be careful, don't go to far if you are not experienced. Seems like they are having to send in rescue teams when people get lost trying to find the pools.

If you want a hard, vertical climb in a short period of time this is the hike for you. The reward are these beautiful pools and waterfalls. I really enjoyed it around sunset. The light was perfect for photos.

After almost 3 inches of rain, we visited Catalina State Park. We live "just around the corner" so we visit the park 3-5 times a week. Today was gorgeous! Cool air, warm sun, beautiful sky and views to take your breath away. We headed to Dripping Springs around noon. There was so much water in the washes, it made crossing difficult for many. Fortunately, we know of a great plan B so we were able to keep our feet dry. We were rewarded with beautiful views and the sights and sounds of rushing water. LOVELY!! There are so many beautiful, well-maintained trails at Catalina State Park. It's hard to choose our favorite. We keep trying!

There is a day use fee - I think it's $7 per car. We go so much we've purchased a yearly pass for $75 which is good at most of the State Parks in AZ. We definitely get our money's worth.

Thank Kathy H
