“Cooked with Love”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2013

Nana's Kitchen is a warm, friendly place but you are treated like family. Not like the family that you love and can't wait to see after a long trip away from home but the other family--the ones who you talk smack with and tease during the Super Bowl parties. The staff are very casual and very relaxed with customers. If you do not appreciate that level of familiarity with your servers, you may be offended.

FOOD
-Tasty but I sometimes question the freshness for certain items (beans, calabacitas/squash, mac n cheese, shredded beef, shredded chicken). Some items taste like they were prepared in large vats that morning and have marinated all day for full flavor but also some decrease in overall quality.
-Always fresh chips-n-salsa, carne asada.
-I have never felt that the quantities align with the price. Prices are a little higher than average for the area and for restaurants of similar size/atmosphere ($10-$12 for chimichangas, $13-$15 for meats like carne asada) and the portions are not falling off of the plate, by any means
-Spice alert: They do not temper the spices. Spicy means hot and it is actually hot.
-If you can cook scrumptuous Mexican food, your food is probably better. If you enjoy eating in South Tucson or further below, this may not get high marks.
-If you live in Northern Tucson or Marana, then this is a lively and yummy place to get a quick Mexican food fix.
-The food was much better a year ago.

SERVICE
-The mother and father of the bartender sons are very active and very professional. They are warm and friendly
-The bartender sons are prompt to address concerns and are committed to providing high customer service

DRINKS
-Ample quantities of alcohol
-A friend and I enjoyed the 26 shot margarita - it was DELICIOUS!
-Not cheap or reasonably priced

ATMOSPHERE
-In a quiet strip mall beside Chopstix and Sushi Cortaro and Native New Yorker.
-Large and open areas for seating with individual tables and conference room/buffet chairs. No booths.
-2 Long tables in the middle for larger parties
-Decorated with product signs, paper flowers, blankets, and a large colorful mural on the back wall.
-Bright, open windows
-Usually crowded and loud and they don't take reservations
-Mariachis on the weekends or special events
-If you aren't put off by being treated like "Family" - you can relax and have some good laughs with other patrons and staff
-Ultra casual. Kids, babies are welcome (and treated like "Family")

FREQUENCY
-We have visited about 8 times over the past 8 months

“Great Mexican food.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2013 via mobile

Stopped in Tucson for the night and found Nana's Kitchen on Trip Advisor. The restaurant was easy to find--right off of I 10. The service was excellent and the food was very good. The next time we are passing through, we will make this a stopping point.

“AWFUL”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2013

AWFUL! No lunch menu. Judging by the lack of customers I can see why. Expensive. Not very good food. The beef was OK, but the chicken was dry. The food lacked flavor! Small portions!

“Good food, good service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2013

Judging from the crowd, this is a popular place. Large menu selection and good beer/drink choices too. Service was immediate and very friendly (they seemed to actually enjoy their work). Nothing fancy inside but the food's great.
