“Something for Everyone”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

Sabino Canyon is a beautiful desert canyon in the eastern foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains offering a taste of desert wilderness, vegetation and occasionally, animals. I visit Sabino Canyon every time I come to Tucson. This last time, I ran a 5 km loop that included parts of the Esperero and Rattlesnake Trails. The run was easy enough but you have to pay attention to your footing to avoid tripping on the uneven trail. In the past, I’ve hiked up the 6 mile round trip to Blackett’s Ridge. It’s well worth the slog to enjoy the panoramic views of Tucson and surrounding mountains. The main road is a option for those who prefer solid paved ground. Many families with strollers walk and run these roads. I’ve also enjoyed the tram rides in Sabino Canyon with younger family members.

“Shouldn't pass this up”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

If you are visiting Tucson for any length of time Sabino is a must. There are some great hikes that can take anywhere from 1-4 hours and for the less adventurous you can walk the main road. Although it is 7 miles round trip you don't have to do the whole thing to see the beauty of the canyon and the Catalina mountains. An alternative is to take the shuttle one or both ways and then you get a bit of history, geography and vegetation overview thrown in. Probably best in the fall, winter and spring when not so hot but even summer is excellent if you are willing to start early.

“Can't say enough good things”

I love this place to get my Zen on. Excellent walking paths and great animals to encounter. The place rocks! Get there early because so many hikers start before the heat gets crazy. Don't miss this place. It has trails for everyone.

“Amazing running trails”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014

You can read hundreds of reviews here about the views and the fact that this is a great place to walk (there is even a tiny bus, aka the "tram", to take you uphill). All true. What is less known is that there are several AMAZING running trails here. You can take Phoneline trail for a ~16km loop, or start on Bear Canyon and return on Sabino, for a longer, ~25km trail. These are challenging trails, with an elevation of ~3000 feet. But all these trails are incredibly beautiful. You will never be bored, and your run will feel short and energizing.
