After eating at a Golden Corral in Yuma, AZ, for the first time in the summer, I was eager to try another one when I visited Tucson, AZ. This restaurant looked the same as the other one and the food was the same, too.
Walking in, you pay a cashier, who also takes and fills your drink order; if you want coffee, a server will come to your table with it. Otherwise, everything is buffet-style. There are tons of selections! There's a big salad bar; a Southern-food, Asian, pasta, vegetables, bread and rolls sections; a huge dessert area--and you almost never have to wait for the food because emplyees keep filling up the trays/pans. The food is not especially creative or cutting-edge, and it certainly isn't haute cuisine, but if you are hungry and want a meal that is excellent value, this is definitely a place to go to. At the dessert section, there is something called a "Chocolate Wonderfall," and it's lots of fun: It's a spinning rotisserie with melted chocolate on it and when you touch strawberries to it, the fruit gets covered in chocolate.
My group wasn't sure if we should tip the server, who served us coffee and took away our used plates (you get more at central stations) but after checking with the cashier, we did. Our server was really nice, too, so we wanted to show our appreciation.
The restaurant was always pretty much filled with customers but we didn't have to wait to find a table for four people. There isn't much in the way of atmosphere but this isn't the kind of place you go to for that. They offer a senior discount too, which is nice. So, overall, a great place if you want an all-you-can-eat restaurant with decent food.
