I'm in my late 50's and not a regular hiker. This was a 12 mile hike (out and back) with about 4,000 vertical rise. The trail was clear and easy to follow the whole way except at the area of the Maiden Pools it was not clear how to get down to them.
It crosses streams and climbs up some pretty steep terrain. I saw several beautiful butterflies including yellow swallowtails. The terrain was beautiful and the vistas looking out over Tuscon were lovely. Be sure to stop to look back at where you've come from - your perception changes at every turn.
There is a small parking lot at the trailhead, I felt lucky to get one of the last spaces even going on a weekday mid-morning.
