“Excellent Hotel but not close to anything!”

This is a really nice hotel with some good restaurants on site and beautiful scenery. If you have a car then it is about a 10-15 minute drive into town. If you do not have a car do not plan on leaving the hotel. Surrounded by a great golf course this is a good place to get away from it all and relax.

Business and pleasure travel have taken me to over 40 countries. I look forward to my several-times-a-year stay at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort for its beautiful location amid the saguaro cactus, the excellent service (i.e. among many other great staff, Max and Chasity in Signatures, and Roger in Valet), well appointed/comfortable rooms, and ease of access to the airport and a favorite of mine, the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum. After my work day, I truly look forward to relaxing on the hotel veranda and enjoying the traditional toast and free tequila shot at 5:30 (with the ever pleasant server Jack, among others, offering the latest drinks or southwest cuisine creations). With excellent service in its many venues throughout the hotel, a guest can't help but remember dedicated JW Marriott employee names and where to stay the next visit to Tucson..

Room Tip: Great views from rooms overlooking the main veranda and pool areas.

You can't fault the placement of this property - nestled in the scenic foothills just north of Tucson, this adobe-inspired resort incorporates many lovely features of the history and culture of the region. As you step inside, you are greeted by high beam ceilings in the lobby filled with comfy red leather club chairs, blanket-motif rugs and three flavors of iced water (I'm fond of the sage). Not to be missed are the nightly tequila toasts out on the patio inspired by Pancho Villa's drinking contest with his father-in-law-to-be. Finally, every contact one has with the staff is an experience of "customer-centered service" that almost knocks your sandals off. So kudos on all those points, and the beds are pretty comfy (and I'm hard to please).

Here's what to watch out for - hidden costs! The internet (if it's not included) is 16.95 a night. Drinks are in the $15 range and I paid $92. last evening for four drinks and two orders of chips, salsa, and guacamole (including tip). I don't have the figure, but I'm told the breakfast buffet is spendy. My Starbucks grande was 2.75. Again, I don't have the figure for parking, but make your own guess. And...surprisingly, the rooms are rather small, if well appointed. So....my recommendation would be, if you get the room for points, c'mon down and enjoy a lovely family-friendly venue with an incredible pool and great hospitality. If not, be sure to budget for a pretty steady stream of additional costs.

Room Tip: Views to the south are spectacular. To the north you get the a dull hill.

Ended up staying at the JW Marriott Starr Pass because because our first pick in hotels in Tucson was having a convention. What a pleasant surprise. Great facilities and well appointed room. Very good hotel sponsored activities - guided hikes, evening happy hour gatherings, etc. Kids loved all the pools and the kids club. The best part though was the staff. They were incredibly attentive and everyone of them seemed like they like what they were doing and wanted to be there. If you get Max in the Signature Grill you won't be disappointed. He was our breakfast waiter three days in a row. By the second day he knew what we liked and put the pancake order in for the kids before we even sat down. Nice touch!

Definitely going back to the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort again!

Room Tip: If you have kids and are in a Suite ask for a first floor room - our glass sliding door dumped right...

All the best of what you would expect from Marriott. We loved the views, the pools, the room in general. My only small criticisms are that for this price point, I would really like a robe in my room and the food was just ok. We went into Tucson for dinners instead of eating there.

Marriott is my favorite chain, so I like Starr Pass resort. They have the 'Starr Canyon lazy river' which is enjoyable. Grab one of their inner tubes and just float. Or take the slide for a fun way down. Sometimes, I walk against the current for some good exercise. There are at least a couple of really nice hiking trails, right outside the front door, and the desert you hike in is all natural and stunning. Cucumber ice water in the lobby is a nice touch when you come back sweaty from your hike. If you're staying on a Sunday, check out the extensive breakfast buffet. Very nice, lots of variety, and if it's not too hot, you can sit outside to eat. You will need a car because the Starr Pass resort is not near any commercial areas.

Room Tip: If you don't want to hear screaming kids at the pool, stay away from pool side rooms
