“Beautiful views”

A little hard to find. The gazebo at the top is covered in trash and graffiti. Walking up thE A was fun although a little challenging. Spectacular views and photo-op. Too bad people ruin beauty with their carelessness.

“A Nice View of Tucson and a Quick Round Trip”
Reviewed 20 February 2013

"A" Mountain is a great and quick way to show off the views of Tucson and its surrounding mountains. One can either drive up and around the mountain, park at the top for photo opportunities, or park at the bottom and run/walk/cycle up for some exercise. Dogs are welcome too! I like to visit "A" Mountain with my dog for a quick jog, especially on days where there will be a nice sunset, or on days when you don't have time to do a longer hike further from the city. It's extremely accessible from downtown. The only drawback is that there can be a lot of traffic, and that the entire hill is littered with shards of broken glass from years of revelers. Beware of your (and your dog's) feet!

“Sentinel Peak says it well.”
Reviewed 14 December 2012

A drive up "A" Mountain is well worth a vacationers time. Frankly it is worth a locals time too. Before our frontier era you needed 3 things to have a city. 1 - water, 2 - a place to grow stuff and 3 - a hill to sit upon to see who is coming. "A" mountain is not only a finely proportioned hill but also serves as number three in the city - town old time requirement trilogy.
It is also an easily accessed, quiet respite on a busy day. As a well maintained City Park it does have regular operating hours and unfortunately does close early at night time. Pay attention to the hours as you pass through the gate. Still, a view of the City Lights is a locals must see. Also pay attention to birdlife and regional fauna. Incidently, the ruins at the bottom of the hill, right where Mission Road turns into Granada is Warner's Mill, worth a stop for those interested in local history.
Driving to the top is on paved if narrow road, one way traffic. Park at the bottom of the "A" and get out for an enjoyable peaceful view (360 degree if you choose to climb to the top). To drive up go west on Congress to Questa St. turn left and follow Questa to the top.
Just before the Questa turn off and on your right as you are going west on Congress is a fine raspado place. These are Mexicano snow cones and better than any USA version you ever ate. Be bold, cinnamon, banana and strawberry, leche with ice creme and nuts, topped with sweet condensed milk is my favorite. (I said they were good)!
Enjoy your ride to the top of "A" mountain! As you look out remember, exactly where you are standing native americans, spanish conquistadores, mexicano soldiers and early american-europeans all stood then and all enjoyed the view exactly as you are now. "A" mountain is a place of historical interest, beauty, relaxation and its free! Be sure to take those Zeiss 15X60's.

“Fantastic views”

Many people bike or hike up here, but we drove. You can take a picnic to the top. The view all around Tucson is fantastic from this elevation.

“Good Time”
Reviewed 6 November 2012

We had a good time on Sentinel Peak last night. The drive up is a little scary as there is no guard rail and the road is a bit narrow, but it's worth the drive. We got there just after dark, parked right under the "A" and hiked up to it. The views of the city with the lights was awesome. The part of the hill with the "A" seemed steep in the dark, but no one fell or had any trouble.

After playing on the "A" for a bit, we drove around to the back side and climbed the trail to the top of the peak. Not many people did that (we were the only ones there this particular evening), but it's well worth the 15 minutes to get to the top, see the view, and hike down to the top of the "A" for more fun. It was fun watching people try to climb up the "A" while looking down from the top.

In the past, the mountain has been kind of a hangout for less-than-desirables, but we had no problems. I think the early closing (8pm) helped clean it up.

All in all it was a good time.
