We rarely order pizza in Tucson! Reason #1---too many great Mexican restaurantes instead, and #2---Pizza pie places in Tucson that are close to being
adequate are few and far between! However: the exception! Magpie Pies!!
Great selections, very fresh ingredients, light and not doughy crust, and served
promptly and "Hot"!
Several locations are available, and understandably--they have been in business
for many years and with several aculades.
Not to say that their aren't great pizzas hidden out there in restaurant-land,
but like us---who has the time for "search and discovery"!
Do MAGPIE!

Tucson doesn't have a lot of really good pizza places. Strike that, we don't have even a few really good pizza places. Magpies has fresh ingredients and consistantly good flavor. Our favorite is "The Greek", to which we add Cappicola. We have never been disappointed and when delivered, it's still hot and fresh. For Tucson, it's really great.

Off and on, we've frequented this Magpies location for years, most often ordering slices so that we can have a quick meal without agreeing on the contents of a full pizza. They've now discontinued slices. This action, together with the inconsistent quality of the pizza, has eliminated them from our dining list for a quick and simple meal. We've always thought the overdone pizza was a result of the careless handling of the slices; however, our more recent orders of full pizzas has resulted in too many over baked meals. When they're on their game, the pizza can be excellent, but the odds of getting a properly baked pizza aren't good enough for us to keep trying. We much prefer Zona 78 and Rene's Organic, where the food is consistently excellent.

Magpies is sort of an institution in Tucson. Likely there aren't many reviews because everyone in town knows about it - the main location on 4th is right in the midst of the hippest and most happening scene in the city. The humble pizzeria constantly dishes out the best pies in town, and has been rated tops by practically every newspaper, magazine, food critic, etc. in the city. So nothing much to add other than that it lived up to expectations, even the small store we visited on Broadway. The Godfather was to die for. The crust was great - the toppings were premium.

A HUGE and IMPORTANT note to visitors and why I've only given this 4 stores despite the amazing pizza. Somehow this place gets away with no bathroom. I was told to walk across the street to the gas station - which had no bathroom and ended up having to buy a drink at Jack-in-the-Box. I'm not sure how a place with tables can get away with this - but it needs to be remedied.

On a visit to Tucson this weekend our first stop was Magpies. It was in a neat little part of town, some good people watching. the staff was friendly and interacted with my son (4). we were only one of 5 tables in there- it was early (5:30 on a Friday). I had the Friday special, a pesto pizza. One of the best I have ever had. My son ordered the cheese breadsticks, which was basically a cheese pizza cut into smaller "breadstick" strips, good for a kid. Overall it was good, nothing overly exciting, but if we were to visit the area again, might stop in.
