Madera Canyon is remote, yet accessible (20 minutes from Green Valley, AZ) and very beautiful. We visited this park late afternoon during a rainstorm - and saw 2 herds of wild turkeys walking on the road, an unbelievable sight - also some deer. We came back for a hike in better weather. There are maps at each trailhead & 5 levels of difficulty of hiking trails - from easy to difficult. There is even a paved one for wheelchair access. We chose a moderately easy hike to start out with, but believe me, we gained enough elevation to have stunning views of the snowcapped peaks and valley below. I can only imagine the views from the expert trails. There are several parking areas with picnic tables interspersed. There are also several small rustic inns for overnite stays, and a gift shop next to a spectacular bird-feeding area. This is a truly must see day-trip for a change of scenery from the desert.
