“Hiking”
Reviewed 9 February 2013

A great place to go in the summer and winter months. In the summer, the trail starts off high and then goes down in the shade to cool off and then back up into the heat. I love it. It isn't a rough trail nor is there a lot of cactus!

“Great hiking.”
Reviewed 17 September 2012

Most folks who hike and live in Tucson use several trails. This is one of my favorites. Mostly because I can actually walk to it from home. Easy accessible parking right at the trail head. We usually hike up for about 2hrs. and down about 1 hr. So it's an easy hike for us older folks. Take plenty of water and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Catalina Mts.

“Rocky trails through beautiful canyons”
Reviewed 8 February 2012

Our second hike during our stay in Tucson was the trail to the dam in Pima Canyon. While the Sabino Canyon trails lie within the well maintained and equipped Coronado National Forest, the Pima Canyon trailhead is much more rustic. While the scenery is outstanding, the trails themselves are much more rustic than those of Sabino Canyon.

We're in our early 60's and are not avid hikers, but we found the path rocky, but manageable. By rocky, I mean that the trail is often like very rough cobblestone as opposed to crushed gravel or large expanses of smooth stone.

The trails are not excessively marked, so it becomes a mystery to figure out how far to go. The final destination of our hike, the dam, was a welcome sight. Of particular interest were the nearby impressions in the stone, left by the Native Americans who clearly favored the area for a long time.

We'll be back again, camera at the ready, and with a better supply of water and granola!

Tips:

There are no facilities at the trailhead.
Bring plenty of water and snacks to fuel you through the 6.4 mile hike.
