“Off the beaten path ... but the view was priceless”
Reviewed 26 November 2010

A bit delayed on reviewing this B&B, but we wanted to put in our two cents.

We stayed here in early October. We were the only guests at the B&B, but Janos went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. We were upgraded to the honeymoon suite, simply because it was available. We highly recommend it. The room size is very large, the bed very comfortable, with an adjoining bathroom to die for.

First a bit about the room: very large, outfitted with a big screen TV and DVD player which was hooked up to cable. The room's sliding glass doors open to the pool and hot tub. We didn't have swimsuits with us, so don't make this mistake. You can enjoy the stars (and there are so many out here) from the hot tub. The bathroom has a large double sink vanity with soap, shampoo and conditioners. The walk in shower is excellent. There is also a large 2 person tub in the bathroom.

The B&B is located on the outskirts of town. Make sure you follow the directions on the website, rather than using Google maps. Google (in October) took us about 12 miles out of the way and nowhere close to the inn.

The breakfasts were hands down some of the best we have ever had at any B&B. Juices were freshly prepared and all dishes were made from scratch, even the homemade granola. Food was plentiful--we almost couldn't move after eating, we were so full. And the bonus was the view--beautiful view of the surrounding mountains as we were eating by the doors which opened to the grounds of the inn.

We give this two thumbs up and highly recommend! We would definitely stay here again!

We stayed at this relatively new, attractive inn in early May, and it met all of our expectations (& then some) that we had developed by reading the previous reviews here. It's located in a very quiet area, basically at the east end of Broadway.

The common area is very spacious, with the floor to ceiling windows adding to the openness. Our room was also very large, beautifully appointed -- even had a skylight over our double-basin sink. The king bed was most comfortable.

Janos is the owner, and your host -- and a very accommodating one indeed. He provided an excellent gourmet breakfast each morning (at whatever time we wanted it) -- a different, creative dish each day of our 3-night stay. These included his famous "Hungarian Breakfast" (described in another review below), a quiche, and a special focaccia -- always more than we could eat. We even received some yummy muffins to take with us on our hike/picnic in nearby Saguaro National Park the first morning.

We would highly recommend the Suncatcher inn -- it's an upscale environment for a price that competes with other B&B's on the east side of Tucson. We loved it -- and hated to leave.

All the ecstatic reviews of this exceptional B&B echo our 3 night experience in April 2010: The beautiful grounds and panoramic mountain view, the spacious and elegant book- and art--filled house. And, above all, the gracious hospitality of innkeeper and chef Janos Seiss. Janos prepared the most delicious (and generous) breakfasts we have ever enjoyed anywhere. We appreciated his adapting to our request for vegetarian fare, and we were served a variety of delightful egg dishes with vegetables, including an especially lovely mushroom ragout, homemade muffins and pancakes, fresh fruits of all kinds, orange juice from his own trees, and much more.

The Suncatcher location was perfect for us, quiet and surrounded by some of Tucson’s best natural areas and parks. We certainly plan to return and enthusiastically recommend this inn to others. Janos and SunCatcher receive our highest accolades.

We loved staying at the Suncatcher B & B. We felt so comfortable in our room and in the large, high ceiling, gathering space with its beautiful furniture, art, big views of the mountains, sky and desert. It was beyond our expectations. We stayed in the larger room, it was quiet, spacious with a large bath, comfortable bed, beautiful bed linens and towels and private entrance. Being able to walk right down the road to the Saguaro Nat Park trail makes this an ideal location. We scheduled a ride with a nearby stable that meets you at the trail head with the horses to take you on a private guided ride in the park. That is perfection!

The piece de resistance is the breakfast Janos prepares each morning. He has an exceptional way with food; creative, done to perfection and served with beautiful fresh fruit. One breakfast was a moist, apple pancake, tasting of honey with sliced apples and currants served with a delicious sausage on the side, next day, a baked egg dish containing tasty Hungarian sausage and mushrooms. I'm only guessing about the ingredients, Janos won't tell, except he did say the sausage was Hungarian. Everyday it's something different but always generous and the view of the desert and mountain range while you eat adds to the flavor. Janos and his wife Nicola are delightful people who have wonderful taste with the mix of Hungarian and Australian backgrounds peeking through. Much thought and care has been given to this b&b ... if you go, you are in for quite a treat!

With one word: if one would like to sample the local flair of Tucson, this is the place. 200 yards away is a walking trail that leads into the Saguaro National Park. For people who do not walk, the garden has the same plants and cacti as the park, and the same stillness. I just loved the flair of this place. The hosts are lovely. Wireless internet worked flawlessly. Call ahead with your approximate arrival time. There is a gate now, contrary to what the website recently said, so that you can be let in.

Intimate, luxurious, desert location yet accesible to downtown Tucson and Saguaro National Park East.

Upon entering the gates you know you are in for a treat. The this B&B is unique in its presentation, beautiful, spacious and homey. When you enter, you see breathtaking views through the floor to ceiling picture windows. Snacks and drinks are available in the main room for guests to enjoy at any time.

Janos Siess prepares one of the best gourmet breakfasts that you'll ever have at a B&B yet alone at a restaurant. He and Nicola were wonderful hosts with a great eye for detail in appointing each room.

Rooms are beautifully decorated with a blend of eclectic Europeon furnishings as well as tasteful Southwestern accents. Attention to detail is evident fromt the extra amenities in the bathrooms as well as throughout the bedroom.

We don't have enough room to say all the wonderful things we want to but we HIGHLY recommend this B&B. It's one of those rare places whose pictures actually match the property!!

Thanks for the enjoyable experience!

We chose to book this upscale B&B for a couple of nights to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was perfect! The setting is breathtaking with views of the surrounding mountains and mature cacti, orange trees etc in the gardens around the house. The house is filled with amazing, stylish designer furniture, but you still feel at home. You are courtiously welcomed by Janos (who used to be the manager of Café des Artistes in New York and of course knows everything about hospitality). You will also meet his three dogs, two pugs and a ?, all of them exhitibing tons of personality. The rooms are beautifully appointed. There is a small pool and a hot tub in the garden. The breakfast alone is enough reason to come. Fabulous! Rivals any 5-star hotel (and we own a restaurant...so we would be considered serious "foodies"). We would definitely stay here again.
