“Almost like Mountain Ash Farm if it were in the Desert”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014

The peaceful and rambling historic resort atmosphere together with the location in the heart of Tucson may make you want to move in. We loved relaxing by the beautiful pool, traditonal tennis courts with outdoor patio to watch the play, gorgeous gardens, suites with private patios, great choice of dining options from white linen formal to pool, patio or piano bar.
All attended by top notch service by the staff. We will make this our home away from home whenever we visit Tucson because we were made to feel that way.

Room Tip: Ground level Suite with Patio is well worth the upgrade

Been a long time, but the Arizona Inn is still as lovely a hotel as it was when I last visited years ago. Not much has changed. The rooms are still homely and comfortable, the grounds are still pretty, and people are still friendly.
The food was good, not quite as good as I remember, but still good. I loved tea time in the library. Great coffee, and yummy little treats to just relax in the afternoon with.
It's an expensive hotel, but all the amenities and the beauty of the gardens in the hotel make it worth it.

If I were to rate the resort on its historic value and tranquility alone, it would of course get a 5/5 excellent rating. However, during my last visit there were some things I noticed that cannot be left unmentioned. First, I ate at the restaurant twice during my stay and couldn't help but notice a very distinct odor. It took me a moment to pinpoint the smell but then I realized that it was the scent of elderly folk. I mean to point this out in the nicest way possible as older folks seem to make up the majority of guests at the inn, but this IS something that needs to be addressed - this IS after all a diamond rated restaurant. Next, after taking a wrong turn down one of the inn' hallways I realized that the "back of the house" (areas typically seen only by workers) are absolutely grotesque. I know that the back isn't going to match the prized aesthetic of the inn, however it should not be that poorly maintained.

I fall in love with this hotel every time I'm in town. I love its central location, but feeling like I'm in a secret garden once inside the walls. They have such a nice balance of casual and treating guests like royalty. Many rooms/suites have their own private patio, so great for entertaining locals when you're visiting. There is great history to the place, try to read up on it a bit before arriving and you'll have a great appreciation once you're there. Take some time to enjoy the sitting room. I usually find it quiet and enjoy reading or playing chess with a friend. Enjoy ping pong, tennis, swimming, or stroll the wandering paths. So close to downtown, and a straight shot to the Foothills.

If you want a trip back to peaceful elegance and friendly charm, this is your spot. This is a very relaxing, humble Inn with a fantastic story and excellent restaurant. It's a beautiful setting, conveniently located to the University of Arizona and downtown Tucson. It's a nice change of pace from the many beautiful resort options.

This is The Place for Tucson. All those other places -- Stallion Ranch, Canyon Ranch, etc. -- are for those who love a hectic life. If you've like to stay in the center of Tucson in absolute, truly noticeable quiet, beautiful grounds, delightful dining, welcoming service, and perfect accommodation -- this is where to go.

We stayed here by accident while trying to see too much in Tucson in too little time. The Arizona Inn cured us of that! After just one night, we preferred the Inn to sights and cut back our driving around to one event per day. Why? The Inn is just so, so, so pleasant. It's a destination in itself. Decompression exemplified....

Surely, you can swim laps in the huge pool, play tennis (or croquet or ping pong), ride bikes, gambol on horses and so forth but why not sink into a huge leather chair in the library, read and snooze? A perfect day: sleep late, breakfast on the patio with the complimentary Times/WSJ, off for a tour somewhere, back for a swim and a cocktail, dinner and fine wine, DVD from the classic movie collection and an early collapse.

No need to go on... other reviews are on target though we didn't have a single bad meal and the service was as slow or fast as we directed. No one is rushing you off your table in order to turn it, that's for sure! This is where Old Tucson discretely shows up to arrange things so you're likely to see and chat with wonderfully capable people -- a nice treat -- and an assurance of courtly behavior.

We're putting this on our World List of Most Pleasant Places and now planning to spend a couple of weeks there soon.

Room Tip: Online shopping can hold down costs somewhat. There are a variety of sizes and shapes to the rooms a...

Definitely an older crowd and vibe. Lots of dresses, dinner jackets and ties. The grounds are lush and the staff is friendly and accommodating. But the dining is a bit of a yawn, unless your idea of a good time is white tablecloths and muted observations about real estate prices. We were more hiking / outdoors oriented and felt like we'd unknowingly showed up at a formal patio event in shorts and running shoes.
