Atmospheric and of a certain period; 'Shining'-style corridors will appeal to those with a leaning toward the supernatural, but it subscribes to none of the cliches one might expect of a hotel in the centre of Salem!
Staff were super-efficient and friendly, and the 'help-yourself' coffees and teas are out by 5m each day!Very clean and tidy. Some little odd noises but they only add to the vibe.
Location perfect - across the street from the Salem Witch Museum, if that is your thing (it wasn't ours).
Good, traditional bar - try the Custom House Trade martini.
(Charming mailbox with glass a mailing tube which runs from the 5th floor down to the lobby - watch those postcards fly!)

Have just attended an elegant wedding reception at the Hawthorne Hotel and the grand ballroom was inviting with the classic window dressings that matched the tastefully seasoned dinner menu all served by talented wait staff. The entrance has the aviance of the old with the new freshly painted updates that make small gatherings from the over flow of the grand ball room that much more inviting.

Room Tip: This is a visiters response to an evening wedding reception that left a favorable impression.

Excellent hotel, very helpful reception staff The General Manager took the trouble to ensure that we were happy with our accomodation. In good position for sight-seeing, good neighbourhood. Good dining room with excellent service and reasonably priced breakfasts. Also it was good that the tablecloths were changed after each usage.

Very comfortable room - a very well managed hotel.

We stayed 3 nights at the Hawthorne. It is a very neat old hotel and we enjoyed our stay. On our last night there the primary on-site restaurant, Nathaniel's, was closed for a private function. We had a discount coupon and they allowed us to order off the Nathaniel's menu while dining in the lounge. The place was incredibly busy but we found the service to be excellent, even though I'm sure we were making things more difficult on them by ordering off the other restaurant's menu.

We were here for 2 nights and right near everything. Waterfront restarants, plenty of shopping, and all attractions. This was a wedding friendly hotel! The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean, neat and kept up. A beautiful Historic experiance.

Room Tip: The 6th floor had a better than average view of area.

We stayed here for two nights during a brief visit to Salem. The hotel is in a very good location, within easy walking distance from most of the sights and lots of shops and restaurants. The hotel has a free car park and offers free wifi in the rooms. It is quite an old building and is currently having some updating to the rooms ( new doors and things like that ). We did have a very comfortable stay though, and the hotel is full of atmosphere, which is great for a Town like Salem. The Hawthorne has two restaurants, one formal and one more casual. We ate in The Tavern on The Green ( the casual one ) on both nights, and enjoyed ourselves very much. We would certainly stay here if we visited Salem again.

Room Tip: Haunted room on 3rd and 6th floor - we stayed on 3rd floor but saw no spirits ! The House of the Se...

We are working through updating our rooms, though the shaving of the doors in the guest rooms is a result of the humidity trapped in the building this winter, causing the doors to swell. We appreciate how corporative all of our guests have been with us through this process.

First of all, I got lost in Salem and found the surroundings so enticing. The building from outside is marvelous!
My first impression of the lobby was so great that upon checking in I stayed at the lobby looking around the beautiful designs and its inviting atmosphere.
I stayed in for 2 nights. The hotel staff was helpful, nice and always smiling. Very accommodating ladies and perfect match for the image the hotel wants to portray.
The room was small, which I requested upon making the reservation. Cozy, very clean. Bathroom was perfect.
The hotel is renovating many aspects of the interior. Upon ckin, the hotel staff advised me about it. And gave me the power to let the maintenance people know that my room was out of limits until I ck out. This was a plus to me.

Check out was at 11am which was a bit of an inconvenience for me, but not a big deal. Hotel staff took care of my bags until after 11am. fast and efficient checkout.

Overall, excellent experience. Didn't have the chance to tour the city but when I go back to Salem, my first option will be The Hawthorne Hotel. Totally recommend it, no doubt about it.

I am glad you were not bothered by losing your way when you arrived at the Hotel. The area can be a bit confusing at times, but it is great to hear that you were able to enjoy the sites as you traveled.

Being able to navigate the city on foot often helps guest navigate the area, due to our proximity to all major attractions. We hope you will get to experience some of what Salem has to offer on your next visit.
