We just had our wedding at the Hawthorne Hotel on 9/14/12. It was probably the best day of our lives! Everyone was great throughout the planning process and especially on the day of considering all of the details. The reception was so elegant and the ballroom was gorgeous! All of our guests keep raving about how great everything was, especially the food.

If we could get married all over again, I would certainly choose the Hawthorne Hotel. I love the charm of the hotel & Salem itself.

Dear Laura:

Thank you for taking the time to review the Hotel. I am happy we were able to play a part in your wedding.

Often weddings become a time of stress, but at the Hotel we work to do everything we can to make the day flow smoothly and be a true celebration. I am delighted that you and your husband were pleased with the arrangements of the day and also that your guests felt welcomed and enjoyed themselves.

Hopefully we will see you to celebrate your anniversary next September. Thank you again for such a thoughtful review.

Warm regards,

This was our second stay at the Hawthorne Hotel. This time we only stayed one night and, since it was our anniversary, we were upgraded to a one-bedroom suite which was huge. We really enjoyed our stay. The staff is very helpful, the rooms are clean, and it's very central to all things Salem. We didn't have a car so we walked (with our luggage) from the train station and, other than the cobblestones with roller bags, it was an easy walk--less than 10 minutes.

Our previous stay was 5 years ago and we stayed 3 nights and had a car. The parking lot out back is very convenient if you are driving--we were there in high season then and had no trouble getting a spot. Also, last time our room was much smaller so just be aware that, if you want a larger room, the sizes here really vary so be sure to read the descriptions online.

Both times we stayed we ate at the Tavern and really enjoyed the food there. Would stay again if visiting Salem!

Dear LikaKana82:

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. I am glad you were pleased with the suite during your stay with us and that we got to play a small part in celebrating your anniversary.

I am happy to hear you were able to navigate the cobblestones. They can be tricky but certainly add to the quirks that make Salem such a distinctive and interesting place to visit.

I appreciate you highlighting the importance of our online room descriptions. We have thirteen different room types that vary greatly in square footage, type and size of bathroom, the size of the bed, and the exterior views. While all of our rooms have some amenities in common (flat screen televisions, iPod docking stations, complimentary HBO and wireless internet) the sizes are all quite different. In the future, never hesitate to call ahead and have the front desk staff explain the options for you.

Thank you again for your kind words.

Atmospheric and of a certain period; 'Shining'-style corridors will appeal to those with a leaning toward the supernatural, but it subscribes to none of the cliches one might expect of a hotel in the centre of Salem!
Staff were super-efficient and friendly, and the 'help-yourself' coffees and teas are out by 5m each day!Very clean and tidy. Some little odd noises but they only add to the vibe.
Location perfect - across the street from the Salem Witch Museum, if that is your thing (it wasn't ours).
Good, traditional bar - try the Custom House Trade martini.
(Charming mailbox with glass a mailing tube which runs from the 5th floor down to the lobby - watch those postcards fly!)

Have just attended an elegant wedding reception at the Hawthorne Hotel and the grand ballroom was inviting with the classic window dressings that matched the tastefully seasoned dinner menu all served by talented wait staff. The entrance has the aviance of the old with the new freshly painted updates that make small gatherings from the over flow of the grand ball room that much more inviting.

Room Tip: This is a visiters response to an evening wedding reception that left a favorable impression.

Dear Marcia 910:

Though you were not an overnight guest but a visitor to the Hotel, we greatly appreciate you taking the time to write a review for us. I am glad we could make such a strong impression though you were only with us for an evening.

I am pleased you enjoyed both your meal and your service at the wedding reception. A wedding day is a special event not only for a bride and groom, but all of their guests and we strive to always make visitors feel at home while they are with us.

Hopefully you will think of us on your next trip to Salem, whether for an overnight stay, an event, and elegant meal in Nathaniel’s, or a simple burger in our Tavern.

Excellent hotel, very helpful reception staff The General Manager took the trouble to ensure that we were happy with our accomodation. In good position for sight-seeing, good neighbourhood. Good dining room with excellent service and reasonably priced breakfasts. Also it was good that the tablecloths were changed after each usage.

Very comfortable room - a very well managed hotel.

Room Tip: Only tried one room which was clean and comfortable although the bathrooms were small but there wer...

We stayed 3 nights at the Hawthorne. It is a very neat old hotel and we enjoyed our stay. On our last night there the primary on-site restaurant, Nathaniel's, was closed for a private function. We had a discount coupon and they allowed us to order off the Nathaniel's menu while dining in the lounge. The place was incredibly busy but we found the service to be excellent, even though I'm sure we were making things more difficult on them by ordering off the other restaurant's menu.

Dear DoubleDragon256:

Thank you so much for your kind words regarding your recent stay with us. I appreciate you recognizing our Tavern staff. Regardless of Hotel volume, we want to consistently strive to make our guests feel welcome and comfortable.

There is no need to apologize for ordering off of the Nathaniel’s menu the evening you dined with us. When the restaurant is closed for functions, we still want our patrons and guests to have the chance to experience the fantastic items on that particular menu. I am glad you were able to enjoy the fine dining of Nathaniel’s in the cozy atmosphere of the Tavern.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write a review for us. Hopefully we will see you again soon.

We were here for 2 nights and right near everything. Waterfront restarants, plenty of shopping, and all attractions. This was a wedding friendly hotel! The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean, neat and kept up. A beautiful Historic experiance.

Room Tip: The 6th floor had a better than average view of area.
