Dad, age 90, and I stopped at this hotel while touring the coast of Cape Ann. Everyone was extremely friendly and accomodating. Our room was right by the elevator and the complimentary parking was just outside the entrance. We ate at the hotel restaurant where the food was excellent. There is an outside and inside entrance to the restaurant. The place was spotless and appeared brand new. Plenty of towels and toiletries including a toothbrush and toothpaste! The outside of the building even has, in large letters, "public restrooms".

The only set back was waiting for someone to pick up our luggage; however, when the maid saw us still waiting she contacted someone and a lovely lady came up to help. I imagine everyone was busy at the time and it really wasn't an issue for us.

The price was more than we usually pay but I understand it was the going rate and the tourist industry has to make a living.

On our way to Boston, we detoured through Salem to learn more about the Witch Trials and the history of the city. This hotel was wonderful. Just a few minutes after we checked in we received a call from the front desk to make sure everything was fine with the room and to see if we needed anything. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to or passing by Salem.

We stayed for 4 days and never any major issues. The hotel is perfectly located to all Salem attractions. This is why we picked this hotel. Sure its a little pricey but the location and cleanliness sure made up for it. I looked at the other hotels in town and this is by far the best. Would definately stay again.

The room looked nice...until you really stayed there. They door knobs fell off, the towel rack was hanging off the wall, the table wasnt clean, the AC didn't work.

The location of this hotel can't be beat; it is walking distance to all the major attractions in Salem and restaurants. It's a little pricey but we were not disappointed with the room or the service. Everyone was nice, the room was pretty big and clean. On one cold day it was nice that there was complimentary hot apple cider in the lobby. I would stay here again if I return to Salem.

When we arrived for our two-day stay at the Salem Waterfront Hotel & Marina, we were very impressed with both the service and the room! The room was large, well-appointed, and had many of the amenities to make our stay more enjoyable. We were especially appreciative of the coffee and coffee maker in the room, which made our mornings that much more enjoyable. We purchased the Bed and Breakfast package, and received a $50 gift card to the restaurant within the hotel, which was wonderful. The breakfasts were hearty, well-made, and sustained us until we had an early dinner. Nearly all the main sights in Salem are within walking distance from the hotel, which is a huge convenience, as driving in Salem leaves much to be desired. The one thing that could have been better in our large room was the lighting.... It was very dim, and hard to read by, so I would suggest putting in larger wattage bulbs, which would immediately rectify the problem. Also, a flat screen TV would have been nice, but was not a necessity. Other than that, we truly enjoyed our stay, and hope to return in the not-too-distant future!

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't face the parking lot, as those rooms tend to be darker than the ones...

We just came back from our stay at the Salem Waterfornt Hotel and Marina. I chose this hotel based on several positive reviews and was very pleased that our stay fulfilled our expectations. Two great selling points for this hotel are the heated indoor pool and the central location. Salem is a true walking city experience.
To the reviewers who critiqued the name "waterfront," I believe it more applies to the area (the Salem waterfront district) rather than a "waterview." But this was not that improtant to us.
Our check-in was smooth and pleasant. Kristen provided us with some coupons to use at the Regatta Pub/Restaurant. She also suggested taking the Trolley Tour, and provided us with a map and general walking directions. We initially didn't consider taking the tour beacsue I knew that Salem is a walking city, but the next day, we decided to take the tour and it was excellent.
Once in our room (417, a king suite with wet bar). I was afraid it would be noisy since it's near the elevator, but we did not hear anything at all. We had another surprise: I was the VIP guest of the day. There was a lovely letter from the management along with, a gift card for the restuarant, two compimentary bottles of water and a box of chocolates from a local chocolatier.
We stayed at the Salem Waterfront Hotel for 4 days and my sons (ages 11 and 15) went in the pool twice a day. The pool is small, but adequate. There are plenty of fresh, clean towels for the guests and some seating. There is even a restroom in the pool area. This is a fabulous idea--so no one has to walk down hallsways to the restoom dripping wet from the pool.
My son is a high school runner and did make use of the treadmill in the workout room. I did stay in the room with him, because I was not sure if there were any rules about a child under 16 being unaccompanied a gym. There are two TVs in the workout room, two treadmills, and two other machines as well as two weigh/pulley type machines. There are fresh clean towels and a watercooler. These are all very helpful.
Our room was spacious. We had a microwave, small fridge, coffee-maker, desk, dinette and chairs, two large upholstered chairs and a sofabed. In the bedroom area, a king bed, large chair. There are 2 separate TVs and two separate a/c heating units. The room was not crampled at all. I do have one small complaint about the sofabed. My sons did say that they felt the springs from the mattress. I did address this and a few other observations in a private email to the manager post-stay.
My husband and I both noticed some spots on the carpet and that the walls had some nicks and marks. The TVs are "old"--I have stayed in other hotels that had flat screen TVs. The pictures on the website (which looked like the suite we had booked showed flatscreen TVs and my kids were excited) But we had "old" TVs and my kids were a little disappointed. I suggest that the rooms could use a little face-lift within the next year or so, to keep current and attract more guests.
The door to our bathroom was hard to close; it didn't quite line up right and did not close smoothly. Most the time, we did not close it into the frame. It's a little "off."
Another big hit with my kids were the iPads in the lobby. This is self-explantory. Over the weekend, there were cookies and lemonade in the lobby in the afternoon. And on Friday afternoon there was a chef preparing some dessert samples for the guests.
We ate dinner at the Regatta. Food was very good. The service might have been a little slow by our standards (we're from NY). Our meal was enjoyable and the portions were generous. We had one dinner and two breakfasts at the Regatta. Even in the morning (around 8), it was a little slow.
There are numerous restaurants all within walking distance. In the rooms is a binder which lists restaurants by cuisine and indicates which are within walking distance. We ate at The Witch's Brew Cafe, Bella Gioia and Victoria Station as well as the Regatta. Once you park your car (complimentary parking--a joy!), just lace up your walking shoes and you are good to go. Captain Dusty's for ice cream--home-made.
When people think Salem, they think witches, but there is a rich history as well. The trolley tour is a MUST and you will learn more about the HISTORY and less about the sensational attractions. There are beautiful buildings, wonderful architecture and a maritime history. We visited the "Witch House/Corwin" House and glad that we did, because it has an authentic tie to the witch trials. The House of the Seven Gables was very interesting and worthwhile, even my 11 year old liked that one.
In additon to the great restaurants, there are lots of fun and interesting shops to browse.
During our stay, we decided to take a trip to Plimoth Plantation. We were given directions from the frotn desk staff. Another day, we went into Boston via commuter rail and the subway. Again, the young lady at the desk provided us with schedules and explained ticketing etc.
We really enjoyed Salem and all it had to offer: the history, culture, literary and the gustatory experience were wonderful. The hotel's has a lot of advantages that help make your stay a great one. The location is excellent. The pool is good for families. The front desk staff is friendly and pleasant. Complimentary Wi-fi and parking are good amenities. I do recommend this hotel and I do recommend Salem as a great vacation spot for people who enjoy history.
I will try to add photos later.

Room Tip: There is a AAA discount, but avaialble only if they are under a ceratin percent booked.
