“Yeehaw! A virtual time machine”
Reviewed 22 May 2014 via mobile

While riding around th city of San Antonio our driver piqued our interest about the Buckhorn Saloon. Being of an age where we remembered westerns and knew of its heroes we made this a must stop. The woodwork alone in the saloon is worth the visits. But the heads! Oh my golly, animals from North America, Africa and South America are preserved (admittedly its a bit eerie). It is so worth walking through just to admire majesty of these beasts that roamed the earth. However, coupled with the taxidermy is an amazing museum of The Texas Rangers, paying homage to law keepers in a once lawless land. The dioramas and mini bios of each Ranger fill you with an incredible amount of respect and awe at their determination and the challenges they faced. No visit to San Antonio is complete without a stop in here, Pardner.

“Only in Texas”
Reviewed 16 May 2014

This was such a great museum; I have never seen so many dead animals in one place or so many fashioned into furniture. This is a must for taxidermy fans. And you can also get a deep fried twinkie....

“Interesting Museum”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

History of the Texas Rangers and a taxidermist heaven of every creature just about on display. You can enjoy a beer or rootbeer as we did while touring the museum. Two pistol toting cowboys greet you at the door. They also serve food there.

“So much history to see.....”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

From the moment you step in, you feel transported to the Wild West. There are stuffed animals of all kinds, a cowboy who roams around in a duster and a ten gallon hat, a couple of diamond back rattlesnakes so at least 6 feet long (don't worry it is just their skins) and pictures galore. They also have a history of the legendary outlaws, Bonnie and Clyde, along with a mock-up of their death car. They also serve food there, but we didn't stay to eat. Anyone who loves history will be whisked away for an hour or so.
