“Relaxed beauty”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Even if you don't go inside and see all the amazing artwork on display, the grounds are a fantastic and relaxing place to spend some time. After a while you wonder how this tranquil setting can be part of a busy city. The grounds are a photographers delight.

“Esthetic Experience”
Reviewed 22 November 2013

The McNay Art Museum is a beautiful mansion and grounds that contain pieces that inspire. Besides the extensive core collection which is surprisingly large and filled with quality pieces, there is always a "special exhibit" or two that are well worth looking into. It's a wonderful place to stroll outside (for free) or tour inside (entrance fee). I'm very happy we took a couple of hours to enjoy this inspiring experience.

“Cheetos, costumes, and more”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

The original estate that houses the museum is a work of art in itself. The draw for us was a temporary exhibit of costumes used in period films, but we stayed to stroll through the rest of the first floor. The security staff were quite knowledgable about the building and the art, and enthusiastically engaged in conversation about it. We would have completely missed a room with a sculpture covered in Cheetos, and another with paintings by Carl Rice Embrey, if it weren't for one such guard.

“A Gem!”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

This art gallery has just a little bit of everything and is housed primarily in the home of the donor. The house itself is worth seeing and the grounds are beautiful. I especially loved the courtyard and not to be missed are the tiled steps! A modern addition was added several years go and housed a special exhibit when I was visiting. It's a bit out of town but the admission is reasonable and it's a little jewel of a gallery.

“One of the highlights of our trip”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

Despite visiting San Antonio several times in the past, we had never been to the McNay. We happened to go on a Thursday night, their one night a week with extended hours. We didn't expect the free outdoor concert and the free admission (just for Thur. nights) - awesome! The variety of collections themselves are noteworthy, but the setting adds a lot. The original mansion is beautiful, and being there at night made it even more special. Don't miss the courtyard/patio.
