“Large Unit, Great Location”
Reviewed 5 November 2012

We stayed at Wyndham La Cascada for four nights. We'd never been to San Antonio and wanted to focus our time on the River Walk and other downtown attractions without renting a car. This was the perfect location. We easily walked from the hotel to the river, which is right outside of the hotel. Then it was a short walk along the River to the River Walk. We walked the other direction on the river to King William. The city of San Antonio has made it very easy to walk along the river and having the hotel right there was fantastic.
We had a large one bedroom condo. The bathroom was very large with two seperated sinks (his & hers). We had a handicapped accessible unit, so the shower was a bit odd, but didn't make our stay any less pleasurable. The room was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The furnishings looked mostly new. We had a full kitchen and a washer/dryer. We had no complaints about the room.
The resort has a free shuttle that drops off at 4 or 5 different locations. This is very convenient if you prefer not to walk. We used the shuttle a couple of days to get us to a location then walked back as we discovered San Antonio along the way.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room.

We stayed Oct 14-19 What a wonderful place to stay. Quiet and beautiful surroundings. Great walking distance to everything. they also had a shuttle which was helpful the first day to get to know where everything is. We used the pool everyday and was very quiet until 3:00 when the kids started coming. Than off to our rooms to relax and get ready for dinner.

Will stay again next year for a girls weekend

Room Tip: Upgrade to presidential

Located on the riverwalk but about a 10 minute walk south of the main riverwalk restaurant area. Well decorated, very clean resort. Our two bedroom unit had a full kitchen, washer and dryer, flat screen TVs in the bedrooms and living room. The living room had a full sized sleeper sofa. Kitchen had granite counter tops, refrigerator, full stove, microwave, coffee maker, etc. While the unit could comfortably sleep six the unit was not prepared for six. For some reason housekeeping only left enough towels, wash clothes, soap for four. It was not a problem getting more as we needed them. This Wyndham does not have a restaurant. Parking is valet only and the parking charge is $15.00 a night. Call ahead for your car and you won't have to wait that long for your car once you are downstairs. The resort runs a complementary shuttle up until about 4:30. The shuttle takes you to drop-off/pick-up points for the Alamo, riverwalk mall, merchant square. A short drive down I-37 or I-35 will get you to Military Dr where you will find Walmarts, shopping and plenty of restaurants. To those of you use to hotel accomodations - this is a timeshare resort, thus there is no daily house keeping. The resort does provide daily towel exchange from 9:00 AM to about 4:00 PM. There is a timeshare sales staff on site. Once you checkin the front desk will send you over to another desk for you 'welcome' package. There you will be asked to attend a presentation with, usually, some monetary gift card for your time. During our week there we had no one annoying us to set through a sales presentation. I will suggest, for anyone who might consider a timeshare purchase, to first go to Redweek.com or the Timeshare Users Group to first understand how a Wyndham timeshare works and to see how much cheaper a timeshare resale is versus buying from the company.

Room Tip: Rooms facing North and East have the best view of the Riverwalk.

We stayed a week in the 4 bedroom, 4 bath Presidential suite. The room was lovely, well decorated and well stocked. The nice surprise was a 2nd Master bedroom with an excellent whirlpool tub, one of the best I've ever used. Since it was October, it was a tad chilly for the pool, but it was a nice area, if a little small. The most important thing to know is that the property is located in an urban, downtown area. If you are looking for a quiet, restful retreat, this is not the place for you. Not any fault of Wyndham or the staff, but there are sirens and train whistles all night, as well as the squealing of the tires in the Valet area due to the finish on the concrete. The hotel is located on the Riverwalk extension, about a half mile walk to the main Loop area. The shuttle runs on a schedule, but stops at 4:45pm. We used it 2 out of the 6 days. There were a few little hiccups, as with every trip, but as upper level Wyndham owners, the staff bent over backwards to make it right. They have a great selection of DVDs and games, as well as pool and checkers in the lobby. The Hippo's grocery is extremely overpriced, and has limited hours, so make sure you plan ahead for those late night chocolate cravings.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool have full balconies vs. 2 smaller balconies on the street side.

We stayed five nights at this location. It is not on the main river walk loop but has easy access to the loop. There is a shuttle that will deliver you to certain locations downtown. The shuttle runs on a scheduled route. After being dropped off we almost always walked back to the hotel by way of the river walk. Paid parking is 24 hour surveillance at a premium at the hotel and when you call the valet they will have your vehicle at the main door in minutes. Cheaper parking fees/rates in the immediate area of the hotel can be found but they do not offer 24 hour surveillance. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean and had nice appliances. There is another Wyndham in San Antonio that is on the river walk, I’ve never stayed in it and was told this is the better one. After seeing the “other one” I would prefer to stay here only because I liked this location.

Beautiful place, clean & comfortable rooms with plenty of space for the family. Easy walking distance to River Walk area, restaurants and other attractions. Since this resort is located downtown, valet parking (available for $15 per day) is probably your best bet as alternative parking arrangements are limited (remember to tip the valets as they all appear overworked). Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. The only negative was the sales staff. They kept trying to sign us up for some sort of presentative or meeting to give us coupons. Even after a few definitive "no, I'm not interested" replies, they continued to harass us in our room. One employee, Linda, was extrememly rude and unapologetic even after we complained.
All in all, it was a good visit - just beware the persistent (and sometimes rude) sales staff.
