We spent about 3 hours at the gardens. The gardeners have put real thought into the selection of plants, flowers and trees. My favorite was the "inspiration garden" where the plantings are based on the bible - fig trees, olive trees, palms, etc. Another area had small homes with front yards planted with themes, low water, native, high country, etc. There were examples of historical home steads, as well as a fabulous bird watching area. We saw numerous humming birds, wood peckers, and of course, ducks near the pond. Bring some quarters to purchase feed. An excellent bargain, discount for retired and active military.

We visited here during the Memorial Weekend.
I liked all the indoor exhibits. Desert, rainforest etc. I also liked the Japanese Garden and it looked lovely in pictures.
It is a well kept place.
We left using the 7 bus that has a stop at the front, outside the main building.

We visited here on our second day of our trip (Saturday). It mostly was because I did not know how crowded San Antonio would be on a weekend. It was a great place for our kids to get in a lot of walking and tire them out a bit. This place was huge! We spent about 1 - 1 1/2 hours there. It had so much to look at and walk through from the sensory garden to the bird watching area to the working vegetable garden and more. Also, I got a student discount and the tickets were good all day.

We were very surprised at the excellent layout and breadth off the garden. And it is kept in perfect condition as well. Well worth a morning or afternoon during your visit to San Antonio. Not far out of the city either. There is a cafe but we didn't eat there.

Reasonably priced and fun place to take the family. Maintained well and lots to see. Good place to get out of the heat. Takes about 2 hours to see all at a slow pace.
