We came to San Antonio, specifically to attend the folklife festival. We loved it!!! There is food from around the world, dancing and demonstrations. We got there early because we wanted time to go through the Institute of texan Cultures. It is a wonderful museum, that does a great service to the migrants that built Texas. Every country is represented and their role is developing that state of Texas is displayed for all to see. A must visit if you go the San Antonio.

Please note, the reviewer specifically mentions the Texas Folklife Festival. This special event is typically the second weekend of June. The museum is open during the festival, though certain exhibits and programs may be inaccessible due to the placement of stages, seating and other festival-related amenities. - James B., ITC Communications

I go to the Asian Festival every year and it is fantastic! They have great food and a schedule of shows, demonstrations, classes, etc. You can also take that opportunity to see the rest of the exhibits.

The Institute is always a worthwhile visit. But you must go for Folklife Festival. It is unrivaled for fun and fabulous food. Where else can you eat homemade lumpia, watch Chinese Lion Dancers, and finish off with ice cold watermelon? Go! You will have a blast.

Very disappointed to learn that this great attraction may be demolished, this is one of the few structures left from the 1968 Worlds Fair and is the best most comprehensive museum in San Antonio reflecting its many cultures.

The Institute really tells the story of Texas from the American Indians to the varied cultures that make up todays Texas. Many exhibits, some interactive, many docents in period costume to tell you about a chuck wagon, Indian walls, spinners and weavers etc. Once a month on a Saturday there is a free family day with activities etc. In addition the Back 40 has a duplicate log cabin, adobe house, fort, schoolhouse and barn. Well worth the trip.

The reviewer refers to a free Saturday held once a month. The museum actually has a Free Second Sunday that usually has family programming scheduled with it. The museum will occasionally announce free events for Saturdays, depending on sponsorship and scheduled programming. the museum webpage at TexanCultures.com will have details on these occasions. - James B., ITC Communications
