“Amazing place to relax”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

Oh my where to begin. Love this place!! Beautiful, relaxing, tons of stuff to do or not do. Lazy river pool is awesome. Lots of stuff for kids to do. Great place for conventions. A Starbucks in the Hotel!!! Just a great place to unwind. If I had to give a negative I would say it's a little pricey but we still loved our vacation there.

We went to the JW Marriott San Antonio for a short family get away before school started. It was a great vacation. The resort was full the weekend we were there so I was worried about how crowded the pool would be based on reviews. The pool was not crowded, we never had a problem finding a spot for our stuff, and never waited for the tube rides. From the second we got to the resort everything was first class. The rooms are nice and new. We were in room 7360. The room has a great view of the pool area, and is at the end by the stairs and elevator that take you directly down to a door out to the pool. it was the perfect spot. The room had a separate bath and shower, mini fridge, nice TV, plush king bed, and fold out couch. The pools were wonderful.

The small kids pool included a few climbing things and two water slides. On the edge are water guns to soak people in the lazy river. We did not spend much time in the kids pool. With younger kids or kids who are not good swimmers this is a great area. The larger pool has a beach entry, and never gets too deep. This was the kids favorite pool to play in. There are three tube rides. Two you have to be 42 inches with an adult or 48 inches to ride alone. My daughter and husband rode these all weekend and loved them. The other tube ride is for 36 inches with an adult and 42 alone. We all loved this ride. It empties into the lazy river and turns it into a longer ride. The lazy river was the only disappointment at the pool. We thought since it is longer than the Hyatt Hill Country we would enjoy it more. However, lazy is a understatement. The lazy river is to slow. It needs to be faster. The water does not flow fast enough to move you along so you are constantly paddling. Not our favorite lazy river, and lazy rivers are a big draw to the kids.

We did not use the drop off kids club but did do the activities. We planned the weekend at the resort and picked the JW because we did not want to leave. We had experienced the Hill Country Hyatt last year and want to check out the other resorts in the area that offer similar amenities. The kids participated in Super Hero Hour (make a cape and mask, extra $, a big hit), rubber duck decorating and races, paint your own picture (extra $), make your own ice cream ($5 each, a big hit with the kids), zoomation (get there early, it was packed), and dinosaur fossils (very educational, and hands on activities, they enjoyed), smores, star gazing (great! Kids LOVED seeing Saturn, still talking about it), movies in the pool. All activities were a lot of fun. We tried to participate in the games on Saturday night but the game they brought (a dodgeball type game in a blow up type arena) was a little old for our kids (3 & 5). For movies in the pool, the pool is cold, and we were there in August in Texas. Our kids are young so an adult has to be in the pool with them. This meant one of us had to freeze in the pool for over a hour each night. The kids enjoyed it. Would be nice to have the tubes in the pool for people to float in during the movie. If you want a lounge chair to watch the movie get it first thing in the morning. The front row lounge chairs are taken first thing in the morning and the people never leave until after the movie. The staff for the kids activities were great. Wish I remembered one girls name. She gave us a great rundown of all the activities and was very helpful. She said her mom works at the resort too. All the staff remembered our kids super hero names from the first day and the kids were delighted when they called them by their super hero names the rest of the weekend. Great staff.

For food we had drinks by the pool and in Crooked Branch. Ate dinner each night in Cibolo Moon. It was good, not wonderful, but better than average hotel food. The shiner ribs were excellent. Breakfast buffet was great. Gets a little crowded, but not terrible, and no long waits.

As we left they were handing out cookies and water to all guests. That was a very nice touch to a wonderful weekend.

So far we have checked out the Hyatt Hill Country and JW Marriott in San Antonio for the resorts that offer everything on property. Both are very nice. JW is newer, and facilities look newer / nicer. However, we paid over $200 more per a night to stay at the JW vs Hyatt. Between the two, with kids ages 3 & 5, we would go back to the Hyatt over JW. Hyatt offers all the same stuff, minus the tube rides and kids water slides, plus a sandy beach, better lazy river, and wave rider for a lot less. You do not get the cookies and water when leaving like at the JW, but $200 savings will buy you a lot of cookies and water. With that said, I highly suggest the JW, and would go back with a lower nightly rate. It was a great vacation!

Room Tip: 7360 was a perfect room if you are spending a lot of time at the pool and a great view

The place is spotlessly clean! The staff is awesome and the dining a wonderful experience!
Who ever designed this hotel thought on every single detail. I has been on many hotels around the world and just a few can compare with the JW Hill Country SA! You are doing and incredible job! We will be back soon!!

So, my first concern was children racing loudly up and down the hall outside our sixth floor room. Ok, so it's early, no problem. At 11 pm, when I was awakened by prolonged screaming, door slamming, and heavy herds of hooves in the corridor, war was declared. Multiple calls to the "desk" were met with repeated voicemail and the chaos continued across the hall. 11:15, I march downstairs and sweet apologies followed. Ready to check out, I was not convinced. But I should have been. Because the staff meant business, and took care of the problem. Rest of the trip 5 Stars Plus. Amazing staff on every level. Every person on staff attentive and ready to help - the HR person is to be highly commended! Beautiful property immaculately maintained. The best sports bar anywhere. Can't wait to return.

This was our first time to stay at this resort. We have stayed at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix at least 9 times so this was a good comparison. As they say everything is bigger in Texas and it is at the JW Marriott San Antonio 9 stories vs the Desert Ridge topping out at 5 stories. The design is almost identical to the Desert Ridge, but just on steroids, Everything is arranged the same from the location of the gift shop to the Starbucks.
The pool area is much larger with 3 huge water slides, a lazy river that hardly moves you along. The Cibolo restaurant has a Texas Buffet in the evening and a Texas breakfast Buffet in the morning that at $22 for an adult all you can eat is about the same as the made to order menu. They were hosting a larger deer hunter conference and even had Uncle Si from Duck Dynasty there on Saturday August 18. We will be going again to the JW Marriott for business next May, One caution, the resort taxes are real expensive compared to locations I have stayed in the past. the resort fee of $32 plus the city, county and school taxes combined were over $80 per night. I would expect conferences to negotiate the prices down to a more affordable. We did meet several locals that stacation there with family. A nice resort for sure.

Room Tip: We were in 7362, 7th floor building 3 room 62 and overlooked the pool area. A premium room for sure...

I recently visited the JW Marriott with my wife and 2 kids. The 3 water slides are pretty good for being at a hotel and the lazy river is fun to just cruise and "relax". The property is very nice and the food is good. I did not get a chance to play golf but sure would have liked to, the course is in great shape.

The bar at Cibolo Moon infuses their own tequila and vodka and the drinks are awesome. Try the Strawberry Jalapeno or the Raspberry Habanero margarita if you like spicy drinks but be ready to spend $15 each for them.

It was kind of hard to stay at the resort all day, how many times can you ride the same water slides over and over?

Basically the property is great, the water amenities are cool, but for $400+ a night for 3 nights, we could have almost gone to the Bahamas
