“Great, rececently built hotel in a good spot in downtown San Antonio.”
Reviewed 23 December 2011

I have stayed at several different properties from different hotel chains in downtown San Antonio. The Townplace Suites is definitely a GREAT value for the services, location and overall quality of hotel. The rooms were super clean, the amenities are modern and the mini kitchen and medium-sized refrigerator are great. If you need last minute items that you may have forgotten, there is a WALGREENS like two blocks away. If you are staying for an event at the Majestic Theatre...If you want to be right next to the heart of the Riverwalk and the Alamo?? This is the perfect hotel!!!! There is also a great Brazilian restaurant..Texas De Brazil...one block away!...and a Starbucks..like three blocks away...Awesome place...I definitely recommend it to anybody! Whether its a family..with kids...a couple w no kids...whatever the case may be!!!

This hotel was very new and everything about it was clean. Walking in town was easy and it is downtown so there is a little noisy, but hello, it is a downtown hotel. All personal were very nice!

Hotel looks as if it has been recently remodeled. The building was an older building in the downtown area, but all the interior looked modern and clean. The room was clean and comfortable. We requested a high floor bedroom, and were not bothered by any traffic or street noise. The hotel was walking distance from many of the downtown venues. The breakfast was not bad, and all the staff were very helpful. The only draw back was that there was no hotel parking. They do however offer a valet service for $23 which was better than finding a parking garage yourself. Overall we had a great stay.

We asked for a high floor bedroom after reading other reviews on traffic noise, we got the top floor but could still hear traffic noise and don’t they collect the rubbish early, 3.30am! We did not have the air conditioning on in the room overnight as it was noisy and we are not used to it anyway, but there was still a lot of background noise, not sure if it was the air conditioning units in other rooms we could hear or maybe the central extractor for the bathrooms, but at times during the night the “motor running” sound was very loud.
The bedrooms are a reasonable size, with a desk, settee and footstool and a kitchen area with a sink, full size fridge with freezer box, a microwave, dishwasher and two ring hob; OK for reheating to go box food or preparing simple meals. The beds are comfy, but pillows very soft, one far too low, two too high.
The bathroom was good, no pretence of a bath tub just an oversized shower enclosure, the sink set into a worktop and a good sized storage drawer under the sink, great if you are staying for a few days. The bath towels are a little on the small size.
If you like breakfast go somewhere else even though it is complimentary. There were two trays of different hot food on offer every day but none of it looked appetising. The cereals are/look sugar laden. There was bread and English muffins for toasting but only one toaster which was in a corner along with the spreads and next to them a waffle maker. This seemed to lead to a log jam in a morning with guests trying to make waffles, toast bread and help themselves to spreads queuing and/or bumping into each other. If all you want is toast take the bread to your room and use the toaster in there! The juice was good but the coffee was mediocre. There are cereal bars so if you want to grab and go you can.
There is free wine, beer, tortilla chips and dips available for a couple of hours Monday through to Thursday, good for a pre dinner drink.
Do not come here with a car! You will not need it during your stay, the trolleys stop just outside the hotel and you can get anywhere on those; the Riverwalk is two minutes walk away, the Alamo about the same; and the valet parking is a totally ridiculous price, nearly $25 including tax. Don’t waste your money putting your car away for however many nights you are staying.

One of the housekeepers stole my coat from the downstairs bathroom and then lied about it. A valet worker found the coat stashed in the kitchen. The management did not apologize or seem overly concerned about this. Even after this happened, they didn't allow an early check-in or follow up with me regarding the incident. I canceled my reservation and found another Marriott.

Stayed The First Weekend Of December and Found it to be an incredible surprise. Location, Facilitiess Service were the best I have had in A hotel in this category Our room was a corner suite, spacious new and clean. Decorated for the next generation of mid-priced hotels. Breakfast was average but the M-TH happy hour was a nice treat.

Room Tip: Corner suites great space for family travel

I stayed at TownePlace last week for a short recreational stop in San Antonio. It did take one trip around the block to find the parking area out the front for Valet, but that done the whole process was easy. Every staff member I dealt with was friendly and professional. I was offered information for touring the local area and where to go,places to eat. While I was originally concerned about lack of self parking, the Valet setup was very easy. The Valet parking is $23 per day compared to daily self parking across the road at $28. Some street parking is available but very limited.
All in all a great choice, position is great and right next to the River walk and Alamo, the check in was excellent, room spotless with all amenities provided for and the Valet guys were friendly and courteous. All staff were welcoming. The attention to detail in the room was excellent, even down to providing paper towels in the well equipped kitchen. I spend 7 months a year in hotels (mainly 5 star) with my work and can thoroughly recommend this hotel for anything from a short through to a long stay.
