When we first arrived the room size
was nice but it was all downhill from there.  The location was within walking distance to Mi Tierra and the mercado but after night the walk is questionable.  When it came time for breakfast the food selection was shoddy.  The fruit selection killed my appetite however due to the collection of fruit flies around the breakfast bar.

The first night in bed was a little uncomfortable. My wife complained about feeling something crawling on her.  We didn't see anything so we let it go.  The last night (we stayed for two nights) came more of the same.  Around 10:30 that morning my wife went to dry her hair and picked up the hairdryer.  When she did an adult bed bug crawled out from behind the dryer. We went to the bed area and immediately found another adult bed bug crawling across the head board of the bed our two daughters slept in. We also found additional signs behind the end table and immediately called the front desk.  They sent the head of housekeeping to our room who seemed surprised but immediately confirmed our assessment.  She had mentioned that they had recent training on bed bugs.  When we left the guy at the front desk gave my wife attitude and cut our bill in half although with the mess we went through even that was a rip off.  We will NOT be staying in another La Quinta.  The chain just has too inconsistent of a record with regard to their individual hotels... some are motel dumps that open to the outside while a rare few are okay.  This one seemed okay at first glance but ended up being a disaster... a bed bug haven.  I find it hard to believe that we hit the bed bug lottery and this is a rare occurrence.  Stay at your own risk!!!  If you encounter the same issue you too could end up leaving all of your luggage in your garage, washing all of your clothes on extreme heat hoping to kill any eggs/larvae that may have hitched a ride home, and trying to find a way to fummugate your luggage so that you end up killing any other bugs that hitched a ride home.  That for us will be on top of us checking our own bodies looking for bites and any associated doctor bills and side effects that may come up as a result.  Stay at your own risk!!!   What a disaster this place was.

Very good stay. We stayed during the week so maybe less traffic, but was a good find.It is located in a safe area & right on the bus/tram route. That's the best way to go,, it's @ $1.10 / person to go downtown, plus you don't have to find a parking spot!!.The River Walk is a must do, so the bus saves time & money.
Back at the Hotel , the Pool is very nice & the landscaping is very well taken care of.The service is very helpful. The breakfast has plenty. Our neighbors were a little loud (@ 5:45am to 6am ) , getting ready for the day, they finally left. The rooms are comfortable , ours was arranged unusual, but worked . The full size beds were not to good for us,
Because we are all taller than 5ft 6 inches. So for 1 night I slept on the sofa / hid-a-bed,
which was not great either . But I really like this Hotel & I would stay here again!

I came to San Antonio with a friend whose son was graduating from trainee to Airman in the Air Force. We had to take a taxi to the base and back but for the most part, our hotel was close enough to everything else that we could walk it. The River Center Mall is right across the street and the River Walk is too. Lots of wonderful restaurants on the River Walk. The hotel was also within walking distance of The Alamo (I recommend you see the IMAX presentation of The Alamo before going to the actual Alamo, you will understand it better), Ripley's Believe it or Not, trolley stops/bus stops.
The free hot breakfast was good, although we had to be on base pretty early so had to miss a couple of mornings. It starts at 6:30 am and includes waffles, eggs, sausage, toast, english muffins, juice, cofee, tea, regular muffins, cold cereal, fruit. Plenty to eat. Large eating area.

All in all a wonderful place to stay. I would stay there again. The hotel staff was very accomodating and called up to our room to make sure everything was okay which I thought was really nice.

Stayed for 1 night just prior to xmas 2009.

Room was incredibly spacious, ours included a couch and living room chair, and overlooked the pool area. King bed was tremendous, very comfortable. Sheets and blankets were perfectly clean and of good quality. Heat worked well.

Room had a small closet, as well as a small refrigerator and micro. The freezer of the small refrigerator had several inches of frost on it, the little door to the freezer could barely be opened and closed. The temp control knob for the refrigerator was missing. I would have liked to have been able to make my sodas colder.

Bathroom was spacious, oodles of counter space surround the sink. Provided toiletries were above average. Plenty of hot water and good water pressure in shower. Quality towels. The desk area was very good, space for the laptop and more. Wireless internet worked perfectly.

Room nicely appointed and very well maintained. Interior Corridors. There are two elevators.

The whirlpool/pool area is terrific, you barely know you are in the downtown of a city. We sat in the whirlpool, clean but could have been hotter.

Complimentary breakfast was very good, cereals, toast, waffles, juices, fruit, coffee, pastries, etc. Plenty of tables. Free newspapers in lobby.

Decent amount of parking. I can imagine you might struggle to get a spot if the hotel is very full (it was far from full during our stay). Hotel provides a placard to put on your dashboard.

Surrounding neighborhood is fine, though like any city it is less fine after dark. No after dark or early morning noise problems. The Riverwalk is a less than 10 minute walk, I estimate its half a dozen blocks. I would walk, not drive, to the Riverwalk, as parking down there is complicated. There is also a trolley system you can take, if you don't feel like walking.

Front desk staff was very professional. I would stay at La Quinta again if in San Antonio.

Side Note: We had a disappointing experience at a Mexican place on the Riverwalk named "Rita's On The River." Our waiter (who was adorned in a San Antonio Spurs jersey) disappeared for long stretches, the restaurant was not busy at all, but he apparently had better things to do than serve us. The food was very slow to arrive, reasonably priced but wouldn't beat what you get at Taco Bell. The drink prices were very, very high for a place that is not much above fast food casual. If you ignore my comments and proceed to eat there, don't sit outside, there is no ambience, they blast those sitting outside with a blinding amount of light wattage.

This is a newer hotel located in the heart of the tourist sites in downtown San Antonio. The location is excellent within walking distance of the sites. The rooms are small, but comfortable. The breakfast is very good. Parking with the hotel is expensive. I will stay here again.

Large hotel room/suite, very comfortable beds. Great location, can walk to El Mercado, River Walk, King William area, etc., or can take trolley that runs out front of hotel. Only very minor complaint would be the cold hot tub, not warm enough to use in October.
