“Charming Hotel with great location and service”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

My wife and I wanted to take a quick one night trip to San Antonio to celebrate her birthday and the pending arrival of our second child. I took it upon myself to find a quaint hotel and didn't tell her much about it (this hasn't always worked out so well in the past, read my review about Ladera in St Lucia for more details on that). However, this time I hit a home run. The hotel is located in a great part of the vibrant and bustling area of the riverwalk. And although this sounds like it might not be the best area for a peaceful getaway, the hotel does an excellent job in providing the country bed and breakfast type ambience amidst the city. The hotel has multiple sitting/common areas to gather and converse. The staff provides home made baked goods and complimentary beverages every evening. This makes for a great time to sit and mingle with the those in your own party, or possibly mingle with other travelers. Speaking of the staff, David was very helpful and attentive to our needs. He offered advice on cool local things to do, provided some good directions, and made sure that we felt at home. If you end up deciding to stay here, make sure to check out the journals in the room. They make a great read and you might be inclined to jot done a few of your thoughts as well.....

This is a charming, older building. The furnishings were very nice. The staff, friendly, pleasant and ready to be of help. Not to mention it is located across the street from the Riverwalk and close to all the other sights and landmarks (The Alamo, for one). The breakfast was very good. Plenty of fruit, cereals, breads, and fresh hot items (eggs, sausages, and bacon). A plentiful selection of beverages were, also available. The bathroom area was outstanding, roomy and large. The room, also had a closet and security safe. Free Wi-Fi was provided, as well.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street are affected by the street traffic and passerby noise. A room on the inside...

Every once in a while one discovers a jewel among the baubles. The Riverwalk Vista is such a jewel. There are plenty of nice large hotels along the Riverwalk in San Antonio but this hotel is industrial chic meets historical building. It's a small hotel with large rooms, friendly staff, convenient breakfast, coffee all day, lemonade and cookies in the afternoon, and a glass of wine in the evening. You don't have any of that at the big hotels. The beds were extremely comfortable and the large slate shower divine after the hundred degree heat of a San Antonio afternoon. Don't pay any attention the the entrance. The kids lounging on the steps were probably workers from the local restaurants and were polite and respectful as we entered the hotel. The Riverwalk is right across the street and down a few steps. We loved this hotel.

Room Tip: We had room 204 which was just steps away from the dining area.

We were thrilled with this place. Right across the street from the Riverwalk and one and a half blocks from the Alamo. Perfect location as I was attending a conference at the Rivercity Marriott and could walk back and forth. It was so well located, we didn't even need to rent a care to see the sights. This place was so historic and quiet after the craziness of the conference. Only 17 rooms so very individualized service. We stayed in The Hugman King suite - a large corner room with a great view. It was very clean and bathroom was very modern. Staff was always on call and very helpful. Morning continental breakfast was wonderful with tres leches pancakes one day, fabulous scones another, and homemade empanadas another - and plenty of fresh fruit and coffee. We enjoyed the wine every evening and most of all the quiet peace of the common areas of the hotel. There was some traffic noise at night (hey, its historic so they aren't allowed to make the windows soundproof) but it didn't bother me a bit - the room was cool and comfortable even on 100+ degree days. I was a little bummed at first that the gym was a little ways away, but then I spent so much time walking the Riverwalk in the mornings that I wouldn't have even bothered going to the gym anyway!Would stay here again in a heartbeat and highly recommend this to couples wanting to get away from the noise of packed hotels.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the Hugman King suite because my husband is so tall - and the room was very spacious comp...

I always stay in hotels but something told me to try this bed and breakfast in San Antonio...and I was not disappointed! It was a great stay it's a great little bed and breakfast in the heart of downtown San Antonio, the view is amazing and for it being in the center of downtown and next to the Riverwalk it is nice and quiet! (we were on the third floor). Breakfast was served between 8-10am, Brownies and lemonade in the afternoon, and complimentary wine at night!
Also the staff is very helfpful and informative, the one guy who works the night shift was great as well, he call himself the "knight" lol
Overall a great place to stay!

Room Tip: Rooms on third floor are quiet with great views!

Like the other reviews, this hotel is small, quiet, lots of very nice touches (wine service, homemade cookies, mini-fridge with free sodas and bottled water), attentive staff, and so forth. It does feel like a B&B but it offers a lot of charm and hospitality. I didn't try the breakfast, regrettably, because I had early morning breakfasts and meetings at the conference I was attending but it looks fantastic! The room I stayed in was spacious and the air conditioning blocked out any stret noise. The cons; it is two stories above a McDonald's on a busy corner that is about 2 blocks from the convention center and right above multiple entrances to the River Walk. At night some unsavory characters graced the rather worn stairs that leads to the entrance. The entrance requires a code or if you forget it you get buzzed in. One night two gentlemen (and I use that term loosely) were very reluctant to let me pass, causing me to ask for a male escort the next night just in case. Fair warning that when you first lay eyes on the entrance you will wonder if you made the right decision to stay there- but once inside it is a whole different story.

Room Tip: Ask about street noise- there was a lot of it but the A/C blocked it out after a while (or maybe I w...
