Being of Mexican descent from California and New Mexico, I was expecting MUCH more of this based on what I had been told. It's basically a few large buildings with vendors selling tourist items. Now, it was a weekday when we went which may have accounted for the lack of activity outside.
Unless your a tourist with little to no exposure to Mexican culture, I would seek out somewhere else.

Noisy, colourful, a lot of tat. But somehow you enjoy it anyway. We watched some adorable little girls from a local dancing school displaying their skills. Aaah! Good fun.

If you like to experience the "market", then give yourself time to walk around; a couple of hours, at most. Many of the shops have the same things and fairly evenly priced throughout, although on the higher side of trinket prices. Good for the experience.

There are hundreds of shops and they sell pretty much what's for sale in Mexico. You just don't have to go across the border to get it.
