Since 1917 Schilo’s has been a downtown San Antonio institution of great food. We were lucky enough to go for a late Saturday lunch without having to wait in line. Schilo’s is closed on Sundays. The atmosphere is great and friendly faces everywhere. We were greeted quickly and the server took our order immediately. There is nice variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items listed on the menu. I had the classic chicken salad sandwich. It was very good. The homemade apple straddle is amazing. If you like German food, this is the place. They pride themselves on Germen cooking. This place is good for tourist and locals.

Had the egg salad on pumpernickel. Very good. The root beer was excellent. The potato pancakes were OK. Chips were very salty, which was weird as they came from a white Ruffles bag.

Wait staff was excellent.

Will still go back and try something else.

It's right after Thanksgiving and downtown is very crowded in the evening. The restaurant made for a nice change, pleasant experience, good food, great root beer!

We've been here several times and it's always fabulous. Recommend the rootbeer (of course), split pea soup and Rueben sandwich. Service is quick and friendly. The only place for lunch for us!

Really good potato pancakes. Super breakfast for very reasonable cost. We would have eaten there twice, but they are closed on Sundays. We just happened to arrive when there wasn't a line, but there was a line to get in throughout our meal. Very popular for locals and tourists alike.
