I was greedy and ordered 2 meats, 3 sides and a desert. For sides I had cabbage, lima beans, and squash. They were all seasoned well. The pork chops were good. The sweet potato pie was perfect. The cornbread was how I like it....not overly sweet. In fact the cornbread didn't even taste sweet to me. Hands down Mr. and Mrs. G's is my favorite place to go to for a homecooked meal. The food there reminds me of Sunday meals with my grandparents.

THE SIDES ARE THE BEST...YAMS ARE LIKE THANKSGIVING SWEET IF YOU ARE A YAM LOVER,,,,HOME MADE GRAVY(THE BEST) AND MASH POTATOES, MACK AND CHEESE(NOT WATERED DOWN) ARE THE BEST I HAVE EATEN IN A WHILE.....I HAD CHICKEN AS THE MAIN COURSE BUT I THINK ID RATHER JUST EAT THE SIDES. THE PIES ARE DELICIOUS....THE HOME MADE CRUST IS SO GOOD I COULD SIT AND EAT THE CRUST ALONE ALL DAY! SO FLAKY IT MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH......this restaurant is not a 5 star venue so dont expect a steak house. its a small walk thru like a school cafeteria line with a serving counter. like luby's but smaller. the place could use a remodel but is not ugly just not fancy like a new restaurant. the food is delicious and is more to the tasting of soul food or home made "grandma used to make" food. the chicken wasnt to bad but i think i will try the ribs next time.

I have been to Mr. and Mrs. G's many times over the last 10 years. Opened Mon-Fri they have an awesome faithful cliental. You must arrive at 11am when they open to avoid the crowd. IF you are from the south, you will appreciate the good food. If you are not custom to the food you will come back for more. Mrs. Garner (owner) always there to greet you, all food fresh daily including her homemade cakes and pies from scratch! Building is like a small whole in the wall, but those are the best places to eat. Nothing fancy about it but the food is GOOD! I love the diversity of people who come in and love the place. They even serve Kool-Aid, for those who can relate to growing up drinking it with dinner. So for some home-cooked meals(collard greens, mustards, fried corn, cabbage, pig's feet, pork chop, meatloaf, potato salad, beans and rice, ribs..and much much more..go and visit Mr. and Mrs. G's on W.W. White in San Antonio..they have been around for years...so they must be doing something right.

I have the same dish everytime, the fried pork chops, mashed potatoes, squash and green beans. Then finish off with peach cobbler. Always fantastic.
