“Historic – not cookie cutter!”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

Since this building was once a bank, you get a history lesson in a museum when you stay here. We loved looking at the old photos that line the walls, seeing the vault, other equipment and furniture in the glassed rooms and the beautiful architecture in the lobby. Everybody was extremely friendly and helpful; especially the valet crew. We were given a free upgrade to a King Suite with a terrace which was wonderful for a 14th floor skyline view; gorgeous at night. We liked that the hotel was on the Riverwalk, but not right in the middle of it; that allowed us to walk where we wanted to go but not have the noise late at night. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat – it was a great hotel experience – not just a place to stay.

Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff. Everyone was happy and that says alot about the hotel. Free breakfast, drinks and appetizers. Located directly on the River Walk. Beautiful pools and hot tubs. The valet parking staff was very quick and friendly. I will definitely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: The higher up the better the view. We stayed on the 19th floor.

I spent a night here recently with family, we had two rooms (a king bed suite and a two queen bed suite), and we were really happy with almost everything at the Drury Plaza. The building itself is beautiful, and the lobby alone is worth a visit. The rates we got for our rooms were very competitive with the other hotels in the area, I would definitely stay here again on future visits to San Antonio.

The good:
Location - the Drury Plaza is right on the Riverwalk, and just around the corner are a number of decent restaurants, bars and scenic views. There is also a riverboat tour station just around the corner from the Drury Plaza. We were in town for a soccer game at the Alamodome, and we had trouble getting a cab after the game and ended up walking back to the hotel. We checked afterwards and it was a little over a mile away, but it was a safe, easy and mostly scenic walk, and there isn't too much in downtown San Antonio that is farther away than the Alamodome.

Rooms - The suites don't have huge rooms, but they do a good job fitting everything into the available space. Both rooms in the suite had flatscreen TVs, and the bathrooms were quite large as well.

Parking - Parking can be a major pain on the Riverwalk, and can be expensive. The Drury Plaza has in-and-out valet parking for $21 per night, which is safe and a very good price for downtown San Antonio.

"Extras" - I'd never stayed at a Drury property before, but apparently they are known for their complimentary hot food happy hours and hot morning breakfasts. We stayed on a Saturday night, and the nightly happy hour was packed. It wasn't amazing, but it was free, and included 3 alcoholic beverages. The breakfast was quite good as well.

The 22nd floor - The 22nd floor has a couple outdoor hot tubs and an outdoor pool, along with an outdoor terrace. We were traveling with a couple small children, and they loved the pool and the hot tub. Neither was particularly hot (which was noticeable on brisk fall weekend day), but we still spent over an hour in the pool and hot tubs. We went back up to the terrace after the complimentary happy hour, and the sunset views were quite spectacular.

The note awesome:
I should note that we didn't have any major issues, but there were a few things that could have moved my review to 5 circles instead of 4..

The service - Everyone was very polite, but the hotel seemed to be staffed at a lower level than what you get at more traditional "upscale" hotels. This isn't a complaint as much as a suggestion that adding a couple more headcount could make the experience even better with check-in/check-out, valet parking and the lines during the reception

The free receptions - As noted earlier, this is a nice perk and adds to the value of the price the Drury Plaza charges. But there were pretty long lines to get drinks and at times for the food as well.

Outside noise - This wasn't too bad for a Saturday night, but we were on a mid-level floor and a couple times we heard some crazies revving their engines or cranking their car stereos. I expect this would be the case at most of the hotels near Market and Commerce, but it was noticed.

All in all, this was an excellent stay at a beautiful facility, and I would recommend the Drury Plaza to families, tourists and business travelers alike.

The customer service at this hotel was outstanding, from the front desk, housekeeping and morning breakfast. The room was cozy and clean. The hotel is very safe, with hotel security and key card access elevators. The location was perfect, near the Alamo and close to restaurants on the Riverwalk and Houston.

Room Tip: Ask for a room furthest from elevators

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Staff very welcoming, lobby impressive and rooms generous and comfortable. The breakfast (free) was very good considering... Sausage, egg, biscuits, yummy pancakes, fruit yoghurt , donuts, potatoes, toast, cereal,- lots of food! At 5.30 the kickback serves great cocktails, hot food and popcorn. Riverwalk is downstairs so great location. Definitely stay here again. Only negative is I asked for latex pillows and they only had down feathers which I can't sleep on- my problem I guess ...

The Drury Inn in San Antonio is simply lovely. We reserved a suite for three days and it was well stocked and comfortable. The Drury is more than centrally located and we did not need our vehicle during our entire stay. The valet parking was inexpensive and the room was a value for the price based on location, convenience, and comfort. We enjoyed the Alamo and many other activities during our stay.

On a recent tour of Texas we stayed at this hotel, its covenant location for most bars and restaurants and night life. The hotel was once a bank and the conversion hasn't detracted from the original quality of the building only has a 3 star status but with 5 star appeal.you get breakfast included and 3 free drinks every night together with food between 5.30 & 7pm consisting of jacket potatoes mac and cheese chicken nuggets salard dips and soup. Staff are pleasant and helpful.
