“Blech.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

The hotel was run-down and lacking in appearance. The access to the Riverwalk was extremely difficult. The free meals were extremely sub-par, and we found them to be disgusting. Both the rooftop pool and indoor pool were extremely small, not allowing much room for guests. The indoor pool facility was so hot it was almost unusable. To access the indoor pool required a long trek to an alternate building. Overall, we could not have been more disappointed with the Drury.

Thank you for staying at the Drury Plaza Hotel on your recent visit to San Antonio and please accept our apology for not meeting your expectations on virtually every offering within our hotel. First in regards to the appearance of our product, we generally feel that our hotel has a ton of character after the restoration of the Alamo National Bank built in 1929 with many original pieces still in tact. We are very proud of the steps taken by the Drury family to help protect a historical building in downtown San Antonio. However, we do realize the historical look is not for everyone. Further, we were disappointed that you experienced difficulty getting to the famous Riverwalk. We will work with our team to ensure we give better directions. The Riverwalk is literally right out our back door or several street level stairwells on our block will give you access. Last, I would love more detailed feedback on the food and beverage experience as well as the indoor pool temperature. We read every review and comment about our hotel and staff in order to continuously improve. Should you find a few extra minutes in your day, please call me directly at the number below. Thank you again for staying with us and I hope to hear from you soon.

Only 2 cars can pull up to the front door. No one will help you with your luggage. It's a very old hotel that needs a lot of improvement. Parking is $21.00 per day but there's nothing you can do about it or do better as parking outside is a little less, but they charge you for going in and out, so its not worth it. Room was fine as we had a family suite, but again, old and outdated with a small bathroom. They make up for all of this with their breakfast. Outstanding!! The family suite wasn't the absolute cheapest I could find, but certainly on the lower end of the scale so we got what we paid for. The location is very good on the Riverwalk. They have an indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool is on the rooftop on the 23rd floor. The view is breathtaking. There is also 2 hottubs on the roof.

Room Tip: Get room on the upper floors as the views are excellent.

We sincerely appreciate the feedback you gave us after your stay at the Drury Plaza Hotel Riverwalk. We were delighted to serve you as our guest. First, please accept our apology for your initial arrival experience. We understand some GPS directions bring you to the front of the hotel on St. Mary’s Street which has a small zone for loading/unloading despite our hotel being equipped with an extensive driveway and parking garage more ideal for arrival. In regards to being outdated, we realize our décor may not suit everyone. Our building was built in 1929 as the Alamo National Bank and in 2006 the bank was restored and converted into a hotel by the Drury family. The desire was to keep as much of the natural beauty and elegance of the historical building as possible. We are proud of the project, but again understand our guests’ tastes may be different. Thank you for the wonderful comments about our breakfast offering and the two pools on property. We agree with you, the view is breathtaking from the rooftop pool. Thank you again for selecting our hotel and for your time. We hope to welcome you back on a future visit!

Was here for a coaching convention and we enjoyed our stay! Nice clean rooms, good breakfast and the kickback meal was awesome as well! We will back in March to stay here again! Only problem was the elevators were a little slow, but didn't mind using the stairs some.

Staying at Drury, made our visit, to San Antonio, more comfy and relaxing after a long trip from home. The room we got have a terrace that has a good view of the old church and the riverwalk. It is almost close to everything and it is a few blocks to Starbucks and the Alamo. Wish they have a map within the hotel because me an husband got lost several times inside the hotel :) They have pools and easy access to the Riverwalk. The breakfast in the mornings were great! Pancakes, sausages, potatoes oh my! My little girl who doesnt even want to eat sausages, there it was her favorite. Oh and not to mention the snacks or dinner for all their guests. They really know how to take care of everybody and thats what we like! Staying here is one of the best hotel experience we ever had!

We loved the history of this hotel as a bank. The lobby is beautiful and they have worked very hard to preserve the historical look and feel of the building. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We told the front desk that it was our twentieth wedding anniversary and that we had honeymooned in San Antonio when returned we had wine and an anniversary card signed by the staff.

Stayed here while attending a conference on the Riverwalk. I wish I had known about this place when I had little ones. Lots of "freebies" included in the affordable price. Excellent warm breakfast. Evening food and drinks are wonderful, too, eliminating the need to spend big bucks on Riverwalk restaurants. Since this was not my first time visiting the Riverwalk, not having to go out and deal with the crowds was appreciated. It is not typical buffet food. Loved the mac and cheese and the quesadillas. Many foods that kids would eat, and many foods for adults, too. Excellent selection of mixed drinks. Food and drink lines moved quickly. Empties were replaced quickly. Tables cleared promptly. The hotel room was laid out a little weird. Decent sized bathroom immediately on right upon entering the room. Mini kitchen just past bathroom. Room turns right, where a sofa and chair are against a wall. Hang another right for the king-size bed and television stand. This means that if you would like to sit on the sofa and watch T.V., the television needs to be turned completely to the side, which it can't be because of size and wire restraints. The bed is a bit wobbly, lacking support. Housekeeping is the reason for a very good instead of an excellent rating. There were some items in the room that were covered in dust. When my husband comments about something on the desk being really, really dirty, it definitely is dirty! I dropped something on the bathroom floor shortly after checking in, and after I picked it up, I wiped a small area of the floor with a tissue. It was dirty. I then wet a face cloth and wiped a few areas of the bathroom floor. They were all dirty. I saved the face cloth and reported it to the front desk. I didn't see any changes in our room the following days. The bathroom floor remained dirty. I happened to walk into the room one day as the housekeeper was just finishing, and I saw that she used one of those sticky roller pads to clean the floor, which explains the dirt. It picks up things on the floor, but it does nothing for the dirt. One last thing, which is a word of caution: if you find yourself staying here or anywhere on the Riverwalk during the basketball playoffs, and the Spurs win a series, no matter how trivial, the people of San Antonio take to their cars, beeping horns and shouting, while riding back and forth from downtown to the Riverwalk. They do this for two hours. The night they won their division playoff, the horns started at 11:20 p.m. and went on until 1:20 a.m. The nonstop noise kept me awake, and definitely affected my overall opinion of the city. I absolutely, positively will never, ever return during the playoffs.
