“Fabulous Hotel”
Reviewed 29 July 2009

This place was fantastic! Excellent staff, very nice rooms with great view of the city. Its location on the Riverwalk is great. My two daughters age 6 and 10 loved the pools, especially the roof pool, it was neat swimming 23 floors up! It is also nice to have the big sign on top of the building, it kept me from getting lost around downtown since I could just look up and find the hotel. I look forward to going back. I travel a lot for business and hate staying at hotels, you know the feeling if you travel a lot, but this place was relaxing and enjoyable for me. Loved the happy hour every evening too. Free wireless internet. Parking is $18 a day valet with in/out privileges. I felt it was worth the cost.

We really love the Drury Plaza - the old Alamo Bank Building. It's grand lobby is breath taking with the gold trimmed decor around the ceiling and on the posts. the rooms are great too with pillowtop beds and i love the granite vanities in the bathrooms. The lcd tvs are great too and they have free happy hour from 5:30 to 7:00 and free breakfast in the morning. you can't beat it!

Fantastic service, friendly, welcoming employees, beautiful architecture, historic value, perfect location, parking in-out privileges, free breakfast, free afternoon drinks, free internet, free long distance, roof top pool, indoor pool, clean rooms, and willing to make up to any small thing that is not right. We never heard of the Drury chain before planning this vacation. Now, I wish I could stay at one every time! Where to start? We were upgraded to a suite with a balcony. Every employee greets you as you pass them in the hall. I kept waiting to pass one who didn't say something and it didn't happen. It made you really feel welcome. The free breakfast buffet included scrambled eggs, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, bagels, toast, yogurt, apples and bananas, dry cereals, muffins, and donuts. Drinks in the afternoon are for 1.5 hours and include 3 per guest: beer, wine and well drinks along with chips, popcorn, nachos and other snacks. This hotel used to be a bank. The lobby is gorgeous covered in marble and gold accents, a huge stained glass window, and an antique car. It is right on the riverwalk and very convenient. The staff is very helpful with providing directions and giving out information. The valet service is not free, but has in-out privileges. There are two pools on site, one of which on the roof top with spectacular views of the city. I have to admit, the pool temperature was so hot due to the weather, it was not really refreshing. We had one small problem with something not being right with the room and we reported it to the front desk so it could be resolved by the time we came back for dinner. She said they would fix it and comp us for the parking for the rest of the trip which was 2 days. When we got our final bill, they comped us for 6 days of parking! I really cannot say enough about how great of a hotel this was. I think other businesses in the service industry should learn from what they are doing there.

My husband and I chose to stay at this hotel based on the reviews we read on this site, and we were very happy with our choice!

The hotel itself is a beautiful building with a neat past and interesting historical details. Our room was great, the bed was very comfortable, and we had a fabulous view. All the staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly, including the maintenance man we met in an elevator! (Thanks, Benito!) We enjoyed the full breakfast in the morning and the free cocktails and snacks in the afternoon, and my husband, who is a soft-drink addict, was thrilled with the free, 24-hour sodas. Though we didn't go swimming, the view from the pool area was spectacular. And having direct access to the Riverwalk was one of our requirements and we were glad we were so close to everything we wanted to see and do.

We feel that the Drury is a great find -- you get so much for your money! We will come back again...

This hotel had very welcoming employees. The restaurant at the hotel is probably the best we ate at during our 3 day stay on the river walk. Clean, comfortable, good value. We would stay at this hotel again. If you're visiting the Alamo, be sure to stop at the Buckhorn Saloon. What a great lunch with entertainment, and reasonably priced meals.

The Drury Plaza has a lot to offer. Nice Rooms, Free Drinks at Happy Hour, Free Hot Breakfast, and a great location on the Riverwalk. They have done a good but not great job of refurbishing the old bank into a hotel facility. We stayed in the new tower that was added in 2006. The problem was the old bank elevators were not working well. Some didn't seem to work at all while others lights didn't work so you couldn't tell if it was going up or down. Add to that the hallway maze that we had to walk to from the old elevators on the 6th floor to the ones in the new tower to get to our room was a bit awkward. The room itself was clean and appropriate for a mid level hotel. Upon checkout there was a pretty good line to get our car out of the garage from the valet. One couple in front of us even had damage to their car from the valet parking that is mandatory at this hotel.

So all in all we enjoyed our stay as the service was great and the history behind the building was neat. That said it is not likely that we would stay there again. The trip back and forth to the room was just too inconvenient and cumbersome. I would recommend if traveling with children (stay in the Main Tower) as the free breakfast and pool facilities will help the pocketbook and keep the kids entertained.

Thank you for choosing Drury Hotels! We appreciate hearing from our guests and thank you for your feedback. We know that access to the San Fernando tower where you stayed is a little tougher, but we have heard from many guests that these rooms are very quiet and peaceful! This tower also has its own indoor pool, whirlpool and observation desks for guests to enjoy! Parking in downtown San Antonio is limited so we have valet parking at this hotel to make it as easy as possible for our guests. To try and avoid waiting for your car from valet, we recommend checking with the front desk and they'll be happy to offer suggestions as to when the less busy times are to pick up your vehicle. If ever during a stay at a Drury Hotel you have questions or concerns, please let the front desk know right away so we can work to resolve the issue before check-out. Thanks again for choosing Drury and we hope to see you as our guest again soon.
