“Take advantage of their classes”
Reviewed 12 June 2014

We knew we would be in San Antonio and wanted to learn to cook enchiladas. We surfed the net and found HEB had classes when we were there. We signed up and it was great. We learned to cook (hands on) ate what we cooked, and then brought the recipes home. We learned about chilies they used, cooking techniques, and did step by step ourselves. We have since cooked the dishes at home and they are every bit as good as the ones we did in the class. It was a little pricey, but well worth the money!!

“Learn at Lunch”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

Central Market is a very upscale supermarket in Alamo Heights, a particularly posh neighborhood in San Antonio. The food and flowers and wine selection are impressive, but the cooking school is accessible and great value for money. My favorite offering is the Learn at Lunch class, offered a few times each month. The class begins at noon and ends promptly at 1. In that happy hour, student diners are served a beautifully presented meal as they are carefully instructed in how to actually prepare it themselves. And this all happens in an hour and cists $25/person. The classroom/dining room is arranged so that student diners can eat happily and watch the chef/teacher and watch/listen on video monitors placed carefully around the space. Having enjoyed a great meal, I go home and try recipes. They work as well in my kitchen as they did at the Central Market.
Recent Learn at Lunch themes have included cherry recipes, chocolate and cooking with herbs. Plan your visit early as classes fill up very quickly.
