“Absolutely...great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2012

The proprietor's friendliness set the tone for a wonderful two day visit. I've stayed at enough hotels in the past to rack up platinum status at two different hotel chains. However, this trip was to be different, and it certainly proved to be better than I could have expected. The rooms were deceptively roomier than I expected. The hospitality was a simmering warmth, not over the top and not mediocre.

However, the most memorable for the trip was the breakfast! Yes, this is indeed a bed and breakfast that does the best breakfast I've seen in years. The variety of items to choose from was great, and the quality of the food was outstanding.

Room Tip: Some rooms have multiple beds for those who have children with them. It is a family friendly B&B

My wife and I stayed for a long weekend at O'Casey's Bed and Breakfast in the Clare Cottage. The room was very pleasant, the surrounding neighborhoods were enjoyable to explore, and the hosts were delightful. Breakfast each morning was DELICIOUS! Being just a few minutes from downtown, we would recommend a stay here to anyone wanting to visit San Antonio.

My wife and I spend our wedding night here and our stay at O'Casey was wonderful. Neither of us had spent the night in a bed and breakfast before so we weren't quite sure what to expect, but the staff treated us like they knew us for a long time. The room was great and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic with fresh fruit and juice and an interesting egg dish that was very tasty. It's in a great location, too. It's only 2 miles from the San Antonio Zoo. All around great place to stay.

We enjoyed our stay at this B&B, particularly the value. Compared to the overpriced hotels of San Antonio, this was well within our budget. The staff were kind and fun to get to know, though we do wish someone had been there when we arrived. Breakfast was good, with a few notable items. With this being a larger B&B, though, you may want to show up early to breakfast to get a seat and the freshest food. The room we stayed in had a window unit air conditioner that was a little loud, and a tub that was a bit small. Overall, it is what we needed for our three nights in San Antonio. We can tell that the current owner is making strides to improve the experience from what it was in previous years.

We honestly tried to like O’Casey’s B&B but found it deficient in a number of ways. Madonna, the owner, was very nice and we enjoyed visiting with her over breakfast on our last of three days, and her staff was friendly and efficient, but the only time we saw any of them was at breakfast. The house looked good from the outside, but it felt cavernous and dated on the inside, especially with no staff on site in the afternoons and evenings. We stayed in the Dublin bedroom on the main level next to the kitchen and found it seriously lacking in charm and comfort. It had a “farmhouse” ambiance that you don’t expect in a B&B. The adjoining bathroom had separate hot and cold faucets; the hot faucet was nearly scalding, so it was difficult to use the sink since there was no mix of temperature extremes. (We’ve found this in Europe but seldom in the U.S.) The beds were too soft, the pull-down blinds didn’t close completely, and the carpet needed to be cleaned or replaced. The breakfasts were different each day but didn’t meet the expectations we had after visiting their web site. The best part was the large L-shaped front porch with its swing and table for eating or playing cards. We enjoyed being outside more than inside since this was a historic area with nice big mansions. Perhaps the other bedrooms were nicer, but we would not recommend the Dublin room. Overall, we were disappointed.

This was one of the best BandB's we have stayed at. Not the most modern, which is why we chose it. It's rare to find people so friendly and helpful. Madonna, Kim, Hanna, and Charlise, thank you. Wonderful outside areas to relax and unwind. A few minutes from downtown in an older, historic area. Local coffee shops and a Starbucks a few blocks away. Comfortable room with flat panel tv and nice, hot shower. Breakfast was to order and yummy. We can highly recommend this B and B.
