“Budget at its best.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2014

My husband and I decided to stay here for a concert. We had already decided for this one and then his family made the reservation because they have a membership with the hotel chain, which allowed us to improve to a bigger room and still keep the low price.

The location is easy to find, and also very convenient. We drove to the concert venue, a used books store, the zoo, and the rivercenter / riverwalk without taking even ten minutes each time -and without ever taking the I-35.

The place is not fancy nor romantic. It is clean and practical. It was perfect for our one weeknight there, but it should also be a good fit for a couple's or family weekend in the city or a business trip.

The rest of the people we saw staying at the same time as us seemed nice. We catched a glimpse of a woman and her dog leaving at the same time as we did, which is very appealing to us -we are pet people and constantly struggle when leaving them, even for a day. We really didn't hear a sound or get a smell that indicated a dog was nearby (or had ever stayed in the same room).

The room and water temperature were perfect. There was an iron and and iron board which I didn't use. The phone made a funny noise once in a while, so we disconnected it, no biggie. The mini-fridge, microwave oven and TV were kind of dated, but they worked just fine. So did the hair drier and the wi-fi. There was an electric power bar, so we charged all of our gadgets in one place. There is some city noise in the night, but nothing to keep you up.

And yes, kind staff...

We will, in fact, go back.

Room Tip: Get the hotel chain membership and upgrade your room.

For the price we paid we were not expecting anything luxurious: working A/C, hot water, comfortable beds and pets allowed. Staff is very friendly. Located at walking distance of the River Walk, about 15 minutes, but it is not safe at night so we took a taxi.

Many folks write about the friendly motel staff and it is true the staff is friendly and helpful and this is this motel's greatest asset (but that is generally true of any business). As it turns out we stayed in one of the best rooms so unfortunately I suspect things go down dramatically from there! Ask for the better/best room and ask for it at the bargain price, believe me unless they have huge bookings they should give it to you...because it makes the job & life easier for the staff, not so many far flung rooms to chase after! The best thing about the location is the 24 hr cafe, Lu Lu's, just next door so you can eat good food at good prices any time... it is a little tread worn, but good food & good people & service. The bus stop on the property is great, it is a circulator bus that goes to down town & a few other places & at $4 for the day what a deal and besides San Antonio is a hateful place to drive I should know I had a rental car & left it at the motel much of the time. The Witte museum and the San Antonio art museum are great places to visit (do the art museum on a sunday if you can...it's free), I also suggest the Buckhorn down town for sandwiches and the stuffed animal exhibits and the Texas Ranger artifacts, by the way the Bonney & Clyde car is not real...! As for San Antonio, I've been there on business several times, just from the airport to a riverwalk hotel & back & gone. This time I was with my daughter & she was doing research for a history project (long story). My advice unless you are there on business or in our case research, or you have River Walk & the Alamo high on your list of things to do (I never call it a bucket list...just not my notion of life) then put San Antonio on the bottom of your list (watch John Wayne's version) & see other parts of Texas and stay primarily out of any/all big towns... Oh another thing...don't expect mexican food...it is a peculicar menu the tourist book writers call Tex Mex, but if you search for "mexican food" you'll find it on the River Walk, about 200 + eateries...too many! The River Walk is more like a cement line canal and if you delve into the history of the construction you should think Jungle Boat Cruise of Disney fame and then discover that San Antonio actually hired Disney for a period to advise them...think about it after you've been to the River Walk Jungle Boat Cruise Pirates of Carribean & etc! If you go have fun, be safe & if you don't, you didn't miss much!

Room Tip: This motel leaves a lot to be desired...I know a overused term! So I suggest you go for the bargai...

This place has a good rate and is located at a walkable distance of the riverwalk. However it is located very close to a highway, there was traffic all night and our room was very noisy. Plus, they said breakfast was included but there were just coffee and very sugary cakes.

As a Hotel Manager traveling with a friend this particular hotel needs to be shut down and condemned. By no means is it suitable for humans to stay in. By far the worst condition I have ever seen a hotel. The city of San Antonio needs to shut this place down as it would do them alot of good. This looks really bad for such a fantastic place.

A/C doesn't work, lots of homeless and prostitutes running around, what a dump, never stay here, the rooms are dumps that need revamping, if you have a fantasy of being murdered in your sleep here is the place to go, no one slept well

This was a dirty nasty place. The phone, TV remote, in room Jacuzzi, and hot water didn't work. To be fair to the staff they were very nice. They promptly refunded my money when I left (I have never left a hotel or motel before).
