I booked a room for a visit around Christmas 2012. Previously I visited the hotel when I met up with a couple of colleagues for drinks at the Menger bar. I figured the next time I was in the neighborhood that I would book a room. The location downtown was perfect, and I was looking forward to an evening with ghosts.
The entry and check-in area is gorgeous and filled with history. The area by the elevators was beautifully decorated with an enormous Christmas tree. There's no doubt the Christmas spirit was alive and well at the Menger.
I decided to take a shower and noticed the water pressure was abysmal. It would also cycle hot to cold so it made the event even more interesting. There was an intermittent but very noticeable creaking noise in the air conditioning area on the ceiling. Yes, I realize that it's an old hotel, and some may think the issues I mentioned are to be expected. They weren't deal breakers, but I doubt that I'll stay at the Menger in the future since there are so many other hotel selections in the area.More
