“Best "Early Bird" Dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

We enjoyed a special 2 for $70 early dinner deal (available between 5:00 and 5:45) that included a bottle of wine, a soup & salad first course, an entree, and house-made ice cream for dessert. Sometimes limited choices are a good thing: we weren't familiar with the wines offered for this deal, but went with the recommendation of the staff, and we both enjoyed the wine. My husband had the troll-caught salmon, noting it was one of the most perfectly cooked pieces of salmon he's ever tasted, and I had the whole roast rainbow trout, which brought me back to my beloved Italian mom-mom's kitchen and eating the fish that Pop-pop caught regularly. These meals were not on the special "Chef's Tasting" 3 course menu, but we could substitute any entree offered and would just have to pay the price difference. The trout was the same price, the salmon was only a few dollars more, an easy swap. I loved my homemade chocolate ice cream-very smooth and custardy. The staff was very nice and attentive. The space is small, so when a "Ladies Night Out" celebration came in, the room got a little noisy for quiet conversation. Unless you have quiet, patient children with adventurous palates, I would probably save this dining experience for the adults. The Chef's Tasting was a great way to get a gourmet meal and still have time and daylight to walk around the lovely town of Friday Harbor. It was also a very good value and excellent quality of food compared to other restaurants in town. It may lack a water view, but with the beautiful, delicious food and happy staff, you won't miss it. Side note: if they have some of their special granola for sale-buy it, and Anna Maria's cookbook too, so you can make your own. We enjoyed the granola every morning with breakfast at Tucker House, and it's some of the best I've ever had.

Go here. The food, atmosphere, service was incredible. I don't even like salmon but I tried my friend's entree and loved it. The salmon was fresh, not remotely fishy, perfectly seasoned. I had the stuffed quinoa risotto. I loved it. The desserts were small but delicious. The wine pairings evidenced the staffs' clear understanding of the menu. The wine list was expensive and reasonably priced.

This is a small restaurant. It feels intimate yet friendly. I loved it and recommend it highly.

“wonderful dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

The food was very well prepared and the service was wonderful. The staff knew about food and wine. It was fun. We asked, in jest, to have the dessert burnt sugar done at our table and they did it!!

“Make a reservation! Very intimate, superb food.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

You really should make a reservation here as they only have about 10 tables, but the food is spectacular. Friendly yet slow service, you can expect the waiter to know the menu inside and out, but your water glass may not get filled. The menu is sourced locally for the most part and is delightful and inventive. They change it up quite a bit, so it never gets stale featuring a mediterranean influence fused with whole, local ingredients. Bright colorful food that is enhanced by expert cooking so that all the flavors and textures are allowed to shine through. Great for couples wanting a romantic dinner, not kid friendly.

“Fantastic food and service, but ...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2014

Pricey and worth it! The trout was seasoned and cooked flawlessly, as were the side dishes. Just out of this world! Hubby's salmon was delicious, too. Our server, who knows her wines, offered us tastes of 2-3 varieties to help us select one we liked, and later offered to create a designer dessert when hubby had trouble choosing one. (The orange-ginger sorbet was to die for. Do! Try! It! Wow.) Earned equally high praise from other B&B guests who'd tried it. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and fast. Lovely decor. Everything was top-notch. The only thing keeping this from being a 5-star review was the limited number of dishes on the menu, especially vegetarian/vegan selections. The chef is happy to adjust for culinary restrictions, as he/she did with the bonus "pre-appetizer" presented to dinner guests the evening we were there, but I wish there were a bit more than eight entrees on the menu.

Thank you for dining with us and we are pleased that you enjoyed your evening. As you experienced, Coho Restaurant is a small intimate dining room with 9 tables. In order to provide the freshest ingredients available Chef Bill keeps the menu to about 5 - 6 entrees plus 2-3 nightly specials. As we get into the busy summer season he will offer a slightly larger menu with the focus on quality and freshness. Many of our guests choose several smaller plate offerings in lieu of a single entree. This way they can experience more of Chef Bill's creativity. The orange ginger sorbet is perfect as a digestivo - a refreshing end to dinner. Our rhubarb citrus and chocolate sorbets also get rave reviews. We offer them as a sampling trio for those who can't decide on one flavor.
