If you are looking for a resort away from the hustle of Friday Harbor, this is the right place. It has quaint cabins, a small marina, free canoes and fire pits with fire wood that make it a great place to be with friends. Even a dip in the water is possible for the less faint of heart. The lower cabins are one next to the other, so privacy is sometimes an issue.

You need to be aware that there is no daily housekeeping but you are more than welcome to ask for extra towels or other things you might need. It is really provided with a smile!

However, the lower cabins on the water are in dire need of updates and some of the rooms are not big enough for adults to move around or are in need of more light fixtures to be able to see. This is all manageable but what we would recommend is to make this a NON-smoking resort. Since there are many people with allergies and families with children in this resort, it would make sense.

A bit pricey but well-worth a trip.

We had a family reunion here and it was great for the babies, old folks, dogs and everyone in between. It's a true northwest experience!

The room that we stayed in was a great location but did not get daily housekeeping. It's a bit expensive for the price. You need to prepare your own food as well do if you like dining out this isn't the right spot for you.

We spent four relaxing days at Snug Harbor. We had a studio cabin that was rustic and cozy, just enough space (barely) for the two of us plus our dog. We were able to get a slip in the marina for our boat which made it very convenient to walk right to the boat from the room. The cabin has a front porch with chairs and a table, it was a great spot to have a drink and take in the beautiful scenery. There was a nice grassy area for our dog, plus she enjoyed walking along the beach when it was low tide. Ken and Meshelle were very helpful in answering our questions and they made us feel welcome. It was nice to have an espresso stand there to get a drink in the morning, in addition to the coffee maker in the room. There were other amenities at the resort such as a canoe and a kayak for guests to use, a fire pit, a BBQ grill, a pot for cooking crabs and clams, and an outdoor eating area. We didn't use these amenities but saw others using them. We like the way you have to park at the end of the resort so there is no vehicle traffic in front of your room. The new panabode cabins look really nice but our older cabin was adequate. The setting made us want to spend time outside and not in the room anyway. It was as short drive to Roche Harbor and about 15 minutes to Friday Harbor. We feel like we found a gem of a resort to stay at while in the San Juan's.

My family has been coming to Snug Harbor for 7 years now and we just got back from our best trip ever! We were able to get a last minute booking in one of the Norwester cabins along with moorage for our boat (thank you Michelle and Ken!). This is a very special place for our family and it is very laid back and relaxing, the San Juans at their best! We love the fact that we can bring our dog and the grounds are very kid friendly. Jim and the rest of the whale watching fleet are some great guys and very helpful, I highly reccomend chartering with them.
I want to thank Ken and Michelle for the great job they did and always do for us. They are extremely helpful and the resort has never ran smoother or looked better!
We will definitely be back! - The Heyes Family

Thank you Tim for your nice comments on the resort, Ken and Meshelle. We look forward to having you back in the future. We will be adding more new cabins this winter so the resort will have a different look on your return.

This was our first trip to Snug Harbor. There were four of us. We stayed in one of the new 2-bedroom cabins on the hill. It was extremely comfortable for four. Living room, dining area, deck with a Weber grill and picnic table, comfortable beds, nice shower, full kitchen. There is a large Armoire in each of the bedrooms. The gas fireplace was nice especially on a chilly evening. The view out the picture windows of the harbor is great. We utilized their firepit, with plentiful firewood provided, to roast smores. There is a horseshoe pit. They have a couple of complimentary one person ocean kayaks and a canoe, with paddles and pfd's. We did a guided kayak tour one day but did not get the chance to go to Lime Kiln Park to see whales because of a small craft advisory, which was too bad but couldn't be helped.

Snug Harbor is secluded but not so far away from everything. Perfect!

The cabins are in a very nice place, in the end of a road. The view is fantastic. From there you can go everywhere in the the island, including Roche Harbor which is the nicest place in the island for eating in my opinion.
Yet it may be that its the only place where the dogs are allowed. Hence there are a LOT of those, and some people may not be at ease with that. Indeed this involves some barking, but also some dejections on your front yard...
But the major issue for this place is that the cabins are very very small. We were 5 and this was far too small. The 2 rooms are almost the size of their beds.

Thank you for your review on Snug Harbor. We are in the process of installing two Dog Pick Up Stations at the resort to make it easier for visitors and guests to clean up after their dogs.

This was our first trip to Snug Harbor and I am disappointed that we waited so long to explore this beautiful, scenic corner of San Juan Island. The resort is tucked into Mitchell Bay in a quiet, secluded, peaceful cove that feels like you are a million miles from the hustle and bustle of the world. There is an unending supply of scenery and nature to look at including deer that come within 4 feet of you, teeny crabs when the tide goes out and playful orca whales just outside the cove and down the coast.

The cabins are a bit dated and cramped (3 of us were very crowded in the two bedroom) but they are in the process of building brand new, gorgeous (and apparently "green") cabins on the hill overlooking the bay. I recommend these cabins if they are available.

The staff is friendly and helpful and the resort is so laid back and relaxed that you end up interacting and talking with all the other guests as if you had known them for years. There is a fire pit in front of the cabins that draws all the guests out in the evenings to share smores together around the coals. The kayaks and sea creatures kept my 10 year old son busy for hours and the resort is dog friendly which is a bonus for dog owners.

There aren't many amenities so plan to bring all your groceries and cocktails (although there is a teeny store with the essentials - milk, beer, marshmallows). The closest restaurants are in Roche (5 minues) or Friday Harbor (15 minutes). If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing, perfect vacation then Snug Harbor is the place.

Room Tip: The comfort of the beds in the older cabins leaves a bit to be desired. I would recommend the new c...
