“The best of both worlds”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2013

We stayed in the brand new 2bd panabode just recently built. The cabin was gorgeous. All of the finishes are top notch, stainless steel appliances (no dishwasher), kitchen stocked full of everything you need to cook, very nice furnishings, beautiful harbor views from the oversized windows & an outdoor deck with a weber grill. We could not have asked for more. Truly the best of both worlds for us. We enjoyed the excitement of camping with BBQ pits ,fires, s'mores, natural setting, canoeing (resort has 2 canoes available for guests), while still enjoying the comfort of a beautiful waterfront cabin. Perfect setting for evening BBQs & s'mores by the water. What a perfect set up for an enjoyable summer vacation. The location is about 20 minutes from town, which was a benefit for us. Definitely not a "hotel" in the hustle and bustle of town. Be sure and stock up on food at the market in town before you check in! The customer service here was also fabulous. Ken, the manager was nothing but accommodating, and always asking how things were and if he could do anything further for us. All around a great experience.

We stayed in one of the newer cabins- one bedroom. Our 13 yr old son slept on the sofabed- the most comfortable sofabed we have tried! The cabin was beautiful- clean, new and very well stocked kitchen. New grill on the deck. If I had planned better I would have stopped at the market when we got off the harbor at Friday harbor and stopped at the market for basic supplies. There is a cafe at Snug harbor that serves breakfast and coffee/espresso. The staff was wonderful- friendly and helpful. The cabins are on the water. Fire pits by the water so bring smores supplies! You can borrow canoes and explore the inlet and the whale watching tour run by James Mayas leaves from snug harbor- Highly recommended!! The property is about 20 min from town (Friday Harbor) Great trip- I highly recommend it!!

We stayed in one of the older cabins in June 2013. The door did not lock and the bathroom fan was so loud that we found it unusable. I couldn't get a hold of anyone in the evening when we noticed these problems so we lodged a chair in the door at nighttime (not that it's a high crime area, but one still wants to lock up at night). The kids thought the beds up in the loft were really cool but the windows didn't have screens so they chose to sleep in a really hot, unventilated room rather than risk bugs. I don't think we're really picky people, but this turned out to be a very unpleasant stay for us. We asked for a partial refund and were offered $30, which just wasn't enough to make a dent in our discomfort, unfortunately.

The view is pretty but the beach isn't much for walking on or playing on for the kids. I think it might be nice to canoe or kayak around the bay, and they do offer that. We looked at the newer cabins (the next day) and they look much more comfortable. The ones we stayed in are scheduled for demolition. Once they're rebuilt, it might be a better choice.

Room Tip: The older cabins are closer to the beach, but the newer cabins are much nicer and also have lovely v...

Julie,

I apologize for the short coming of the unit you stayed in. As you noted these units will all be replaced this winter with new one bedroom cabins all along the waterfront. I hope you will come back and give us the opportunity to earn your business again.

Our family of 6 (2 adults) stayed in one of the "older" cabins that sits right down on the water. Ours was the one that abuts a small parking area and the gate that can be opened to allow for vehicle access to a boat launch.

We were delighted with everything about Snug Harbor, especially the proprietor's willingness to do whatever he could to make our stay a pleasant one. (Sorry that I can't recall his name (Ken?) -- my wife dealt with him mostly).

The camp's setting is as lovely as can be. Just beautiful. It's also just a short ride to get to the nearby State Park (for marine mammal watching), the county park (good sunset viewing), and the Deadman Loop (???) Reserve (which allows access to the State Park grounds via a short hike).

Our cabin was charming and clean -- it suited our needs just fine. We cooked out at the communal grill one night and ate at the nearby picnic table. Another night we prepared some fresh seafood (steamers and mussels) in our cabin's kitchen and then ate outside again.

We also availed ourselves of the camp's canoes for a family outing one morning. We even appreciated having the TV available, so that the young ones could recoup after a day's outdoor activities.

All of the other guests whom we met at the camp were so pleasant as well -- they all seemed to be having as good a time as we were.

Finally, we were glad that we chose to stay on the western side of the island -- Friday Harbor is charming, but it was the right call to be out where things are still a bit rustic.

We hope to return to Snug Harbor some day from our home in the eastern U.S. -- next time, we will plan a longer visit.

We stayed in the older Norwester cabins - two families side by side. They were right by the water with gorgeous eastern views of a small marina. Each cabin came with the use of a canoe, gas grill, fire pits, and access to a little store. It was a great place for families. The kids loved running around and exploring and going out in the canoes. The cabins were small, and each one had a different layout. A tight squeeze for our family of 4, but it was fine. The kids loved the upstairs loft. Our cabin (7) had a tiny bathroom, but 2 full sized beds in the loft and a larger plasma TV. My brother's cabin (8) had a larger bathroom, only one full size bed in a smaller loft, a smaller TV, but his cabin had a gas fireplace and 2 larger decks.

Cons: A bit of a musty smell due to the age of the older cabins. We wanted to all sit on one deck. Our small deck had 4 chairs and their large one had 3. We asked for another chair and were told that each deck "should have only 2" so we just moved a chair over to the other cabin. Wi-fi, which was supposed to be included in the price of $274 a night, kept going down. The first night my brother, who needed to stay connected to his job, reset the main router at the office and got it going. The second night we got back close to the office closing time and it was down again. My brother offered to reset it again and the office worker said no, the morning staff could worry about it. We had to go the night with no wi-fi, which was frustrating since it is part of the price we paid.
No cleaning or change of towels each day. You have to ask for a change of towels if you want it, and apparently if you don't ask by a certain time you are out of luck, even if there is someone in the office.

The Island itself was beautiful and there was so much to see and do. I will definitely go back. We went to Roche Harbor for lunch and found that area charming.

Room Tip: Ask about amenities each cabin has: even among the ones by the same name, each one is different, in...

Thank you for taking the time to review Snug Harbor. I apologize that our wi-fi had problems during your visit. We have since fixed that issue. If there is anything you need at anytime the office is open we are here to serve. There is no time limit on getting towels as long as the office is open. We encourage guests to just give us a call on their cell phones and we will deliver and change out the towels. We hope you will visit us again in the future.

Snug harbor is located away from the main harbor and touristy area. We visited in April and had great weather. And maybe even the entire resort to ourselves. We stayed in the first cabin which was nice and close to our car.

We utilized the canoes and the Bon fire area and grills. It was easy to feel at home here. We didn't even turn the tv on. The main bed was comfortable. The loft could be difficult for some to crawl up to. And the not as comfortable mattress is on the floor and there is little headroom. A great place for kids to sleep

The cabin was well appointed and had lots of storage. The bathroom was a bit tight.

Snug harbor was definitely a relaxing place and a great place to go explore the island. Staff-forget his name- was very accommodating and makes you feel welcome.

Highly recommend if you want to go a little bit off he beaten path but with the comforts of home.

Thank you for your comments. I hope you had a great time venturing here to the Northwest from Minnesota. We invite you back to try out the new cabins along the waterfront that will be built this winter.
