Conveniently located a block away from the Ferry Terminal, this awesome INN is very energy efficient, clean, and spa-like without the high rates. We've stayed in the Euros which shared a massive common, living area and kitchen that has a great view of the harbor and ferry line; and also in one of the suites with a deep soaking tub. They provide you with fruit, granola, tea and coffee in room. Mini split pump, in-floor radiant heat, and lots of natural light make these LEED certified. The staff is very polite and welcoming. Great deals during the "off season". It's our favorite place to stay.

Was excellent, beds were comfortable, Staff was polite and gracious. Nice 40 inch HD tv with blue ray player. Significant other enjoyed the big bathroom. I would recommend to any that would enjoy the view and comfort.

Room Tip: I was in sweet 2 overlooked water marina, very enjoyable.

This hotel really is a great spot and highly recommended. Certainly not your "normal" hotel room, but nothing is "normal" with this contemporary accommodation. Everything is modern, rooms are great, views are great, service is excellent, walking distance to the ferry (but not too close to be bothered by the traffic - it flows the other way) and they really do try and think of everything to exceed your expectation. There is no need to stay anywhere else.

This- like most Friday Harbor hotels- was way out of our price range, but I can honestly say the view alone was worth the price. The windows are floor to ceiling and It was fun sitting with a cup of tea and watching the comings and goings of ferries, sailboats and people. Secondly, the bathroom is inviting and fun- has ingenious new ways of bathing. We both took a bath in the unusual tub, and we rarely take baths in hotels- you never know what chemicals they've used to clean or who's been there before, etc. The place was spotless and the bathtub inviting.
Tip: the wall of windows also makes it hard to sleep in, because of the light streaming in. Eye masks are provided for this reason.
Tip: Cask & Schooner next door has excellent food and atmosphere.

This would be a unique hotel in a big city but it is truly amazing for a "remote" destination like San Juan Island. Edgy modern decor but with comfy beds with comforters and lots of pillows, all the amenities--great shower, heated bathroom floors, super-absorbent and lush waffle-weave towels, terry-lined robes, Eco-friendly toiletries--plus touches like granola, fruit, fresh OJ, and great coffee in the pullman kitchen in our suite. We had a dog friendly room with its own private patio and pebbled "garden" for quick "trips." Off-season rates are a steal for this quality.

I feel this inn has a disconnect between how it sees itself and what it really is. On one hand, I really like the fresh approach they've taken in trying to create a comfortable space for their guests. There's a bit of whimsy in the details, which offers a sense of comfort in lodgings that could otherwise be a little cold. On the other hand, style and location alone don't justify the high cost.

My husband and I were visiting the island the summer before when this property was just finishing with renovations and were very interested in coming back to stay here on our next visit. So now that we have, I'm not sure we would return. I understand that this property was originally built to be condos, but somewhere along the line it changed to an inn. This is clearly evident in the generous layout and empty, but plumbed space for a washing machine/dryer (at least in penthouse 7). What this means for the patron is a huge loft apartment, which is very clean and was great for my family of four. I'm a big fan of this style of living space, because it feels clean and uncluttered. It has the potential to be perfect for a family to stay for an extended visit to the island. That is, if it had a different fee structure. Yes, it is a a lot of space in a prime location on an expensive island, but given that lodgings at this price range usually offer amenities such as pools, restaurants and spas, I don't see how the expense can be justified. I, too, love a steam shower and heated floors, but I have these at home for free. As the management has pointed out, a restaurant in this establishment is not really necessary, as there are so many great places to eat very close by. However, I think charging as if there were luxury amenities attached to this establishment is overreaching.

Positives:
Great location
Very quiet
Very, very friendly & helpful staff
Clean & spacious loft living
Fresh flowers / fruit

Negatives:
Really uncomfortable living room furniture
No view (from penthouse 7)
2 kids staying with parents required an extra charge of $60.00/night
Lack of amenities to justify rates

Room Tip: Penthouse 7 is big, but has no views and noise from the room above can be a little bothersome.

Hello Anjali S,

Thanks so much for your visit and for taking the time to share your experience with us! We’re happy to hear that you enjoyed our fun approach and found our spot cozy. We also really appreciate your high marks for our team, location, style and cleanliness. That said, we work tirelessly to deliver an exceptional experience and are sorry to hear that you didn’t feel you received an exceptional value.

Penthouse 7 is indeed a nice spot but is our only Penthouse without a view of the harbor. We hope that was made clear on our website and booking engine when you booked online. We do offer Penthouses with jaw-dropping views and are happy to direct you to those if you’d like to give us another shot.

We appreciate your comments on value and are sensitive to the high cost of visiting the Island. To that end, we have taken great care to make sure we’re priced appropriately when compared to other lodgings on the Island – especially during the high season.

We’re also the only STASH Hotel Rewards Partner in the San Juans. This allows our guests to earn and redeem points when staying with us as well as over 200 independent hotels across the country. Feel free to sign up for STASH via our website or theirs and also stay tuned for some great seasonal packages and promotions.

We’d sure love to welcome you back – please don’t hesitate to phone or write if we may be of any further help to you.

All the best,

The Island Inn ‘Very, very friendly’ Ambassadors

Had the great pleasure of staying in Penthouse 2 for the Thanksgiving holiday! We are big fans of Penthouse 1, but brought Dad for a visit and wanted the extra bedroom. Perfect for the three of us. The master has a balcony and gorgeous view of the harbor. Dad loved watching the ferries come and go. The kitchen was ideal for cooking up a turkey with all the trimmings. They even provided tools needed to roast the perfect bird! Fireplace kept us warm and toasty. Master bathroom has a huge shower and the walk-in closet is dreamy. Great to have a second bath, as well. Wonderful art hangs throughout the penthouse to create the ideal atmosphere.

There is a rooftop deck which must be amazing during season, but we still went up with glasses of wine and enjoyed the sunshine in our warm jackets. The staff is still the best around. Always welcoming and willing to take care of anything you need. Great to see the same faces time after time. Thank you Lauren and Scott!

Can't wait for our next trip at the end of the month. The Island Inn continues to be our favorite Washington winter getaway!
