This place is awesome! We stayed 2 nights and everything was perfect...Great staff, super clean and well appointed room. The front desk staff hooked us up with bike routes, restaurants and even the latest on the "J Pod" location. Wifey had a nice massage in the spa one morning while I recovered from an great breakfast at the Rocky Bay cafe...Hotels are always a value proposition and this was a great value! We will be back. Cheers!

Stayed one night mostly to take a shower after being on the boat. Online photos make it look more modern than it is. Expect a late model hotel with old tv`s,funky showers with hardly any light to see, but new paint and trim, and great beds.

Hi Getawayfix,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your stay. Yup, 60ties style motel with renovated rooms is what we are. It's a labor of love. A fun, rewarding work in progress. We are almost finished updating all our old TVs to flat-screens. This year alone we painted our pool, got new pool doors, planted two new gardens, got new stairways for two buildings and new furniture for over 25 rooms and our lobby (fancy:). Please come back sometime and let us wow you.
Thank you for your visit.
Sincerely,

This is a very nice motel in Friday Harbor Washington. The rooms are a little small but nicely decorated and extremely clean. The staff is what makes this hotel stand out. We were traveling with a group of 38 and when we arrived they met us in the parking lot with our keys and got us to our rooms ASAP. Unfortunately we had just come off a cruise and 1/2 of us were very sick. The staff went out their way to check on us and help us obtain item like Gatorade and medicine. Anyone can take care of happy easy going folks but these folks really demonstrated their professionalism by providing outstanding service to not so happy folks. We highly recommend this fine establishment.

Green Features: Being on an island this hotel and staff are very focused on the environment and conservation.

We were traveling with our dog so obviously we needed a pet friendly hotel and chose Earthbox. This was our first trip to Friday Harbor and realize being an island where everything must be shipped in and resources are "precious" we found the inn to be clean, nice, centrally located and a good value. Pro's = renovated 1960's motor inn so expect exterior corridors, however rooms have been updated and are clean and neat. Bathrooms are in good shape, clean but fixtures are dated. Didn't bother us because most importantly the bathroom was very clean with no repairs needed. On the plus, no one above us but the conference center and we were behind the pool building and away from any potential street noise. This inn is located just blocks from the harbor area, you can walk anywhere and they offer bikes to ride for free, just check them out at the front office. The grounds were well kept and very clean and neat. Parking was just outside our room. Con's = "Water" pet friendly rooms, are small (however we realize this was an old motor inn and back then rooms were very small). Our bed felt more like Full size than Queen, some pillows were nice, some were hard but with 6 we chose the right ones to sleep on, bed was a bit uncomfortable. They have a great pet area behind a gate, between buildings B&C, disposal bags if you need them. Pet fee was $15 per night, they provide pet bowls, blanket and towel. We pack all our own but it was a nice perk for anyone that doesn't pack this stuff. Comment about check in = they say their check in staff are trained concierges. Upon checking in, I was asked if this was our first time to Friday Harbor, I said yes but was not offered a map or recommendations, I had to ask. I was told no smoking which I appreciated. Traveling with a dog I was then told I had to sign the pet agreement which had a lot of rules. Now I didn't mind at all being our dog is well trained and disciplined. We have stayed at other pet friendly hotels and they had rules but presented them in a more positive way. I suppose I was taken aback with some of the pet rules yet see pictures guests have posted with their kids obviously jumping on the beds and wonder why a dog is expected to be well behaved, we're responsible for damages, etc. but travelers with children that are not well behaved (or otherwise) are not told they are responsible for damages and asked to sign an agreement. I just think rules should apply to all regardless. We were not told of the dog relief area but found it in the book/map they provided us. Doors to the rooms had bubbling paint so a bit of maintenance could be done as our impression at first was "we hope the room is in good shape (and it was). My only other comment was the pool was closed on "Memorial Day Weekend", obviously a busy weekend to have the pool closed for maintenance. Compliments to the house cleaning staff, the rooms were very clean.

Hi Heather,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review about us. We love that you had a great time and liked our property.
Our pool house is open and in working order since we painted it in January. It's open from 8:00AM to 10:00PM. Did you maybe try to go in after hours?
Sounds like you didn't receive the outstanding customer service we would like to provide. Thank you for pointing that out. We will work on that.
I apologize you were taken aback by our pet policies. We love our puppy guests. Unfortunately not everybody is a great dog owner like you. We had to implement stricter rules after some bad experiences. And everybody signs something at check in that they are responsible for potential damages and adhering to the quiet hours, four legged, two legged, big and small. We want all of our guests have a lovely, relaxing time.
Thank you for your visit. We can't wait to have you back.
Sincerely,
Steffi Wehner

My husband and I were booked into the Earth Box's sister hotel, but were switched due to a cable box problem. The staff were very helpful in accommodating us, into a very clean and comfortable room. We both enjoyed the pool and hot tub after our cycling trips each day. The rooms are spacious, and it is nice to have a microwave and fridge.
The location is very close to Friday Harbour, and is in a quiet area.
We love coming to San Juan Island, and staying at the Earth Box definitely made our weekend very pleasant.

Room Tip: Staying on the second floor ensures that you won't have any noises from above.

Hi MoragV,
Thank you so much for being so flexible and switching to our sister hotel so you could have TV. Sometimes getting things delivered from off-island does take a bit longer and such was the case with the cable box. We are so happy you had a great time and can't wait to have you back and spoil you at either of our hotels.

I was very happy with my choice upon arriving there and finding it to have a great location and nice rooms. The location is very convienent to the harbor and it was a clean well run place with beach cruisers to borrow and pool / spa on sight too. The rooms do not offer much of a view but it's within a few minutes walk of restaurants which do offer a nice view. My girlfriend forgot her curling iron and the hotel desk clerk went out of his way to locate one for her to borrow. I thought it to be an exceptional ' Over and Above ' gesture to ensure a pleasant stay. Very NICE.
The WiFi was fast, free and easy to connect to plus a pretty comfortable bed. I would stay there again without a second thought.
Dave

Very comfortable bedrooms, enjoyed the robes. Both baths on the same floor is very inconvenient. Functional kitchen. Wish the layout was a small dining table beside counter. There would be plenty of space for comfortable living room sofa or chairs. Good location, quick walk to anywhere in town.

The reason for only three stars: uneven floor and tiny sign to warn. I had bruised knees and hands from my falls, my grandaughter tripped 5 times. My brilliant daughter placed a large towel on the curb, solved a problem that we shouldn't have had.

Green Features: didn't notice. we asked about recycling, they said leave it in the room.

Hi Angie,
Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your stay.
Our newly renovated Wind Place is one of the original houses along Spring Street in Friday Harbor. The floor plan, nooks and grannies, and where a bathroom is possible largely depends on what made sense to people 100 years ago. We are proudly working with what we have. I can understand not all of it working for everybody. Good thinking on the couch. We had the same idea and are currently trying to find one which fits in that space.
We have lot's of green features. Our housekeepers sort the recycling of our guests, since there are weird rules about that here on the island (can't recycle aluminum foil here for example). We clean our rooms with e-cloth, an approved method of cleaning with different cloths and just water, no chemicals. Our trash bags and "plastic" silverware and cups are made out of biodegradable corn starch. We switched all light bulbs to energy efficient lights. Our laundry detergent is bio-degradable (big deal on an island). We don't use herbicides to control weeds, we use vinegar and muscle (thank you, Regino and Willy!). We serve locally roasted, organic, shade grown coffee in our lobby and provide local and organic bath products from the Pelindaba Lavender Farm in our rooms, to name a few.
Thanks again for your input. We are looking forward to having you visit again soon.
Sincerely,
Steffi Wehner
